I've noticed a difference in the action "Attack to Location" and "Patrol to Location". Its not the fact that the units go back to their origanal location tongue.gif ,its how they attack units.
When you order the unit to "Attack" to a location they only attack major units (seige tanks, goliaths) but leaves smaller ones alone (marines, ghosts) until major threats are destroyed. When you issue the order "Patrol" to location the units attack everything and anything they see, including buildings.
Has anyone else noticed this too?

I have now... >_>

Thanks for pointing that out though. I didn't know that before.

Yeah that's true. I had to learn that the hard way when doing several of my older maps.

BTW, did you know junkyard dog units will attack things they come across similar to an attack move order?

????
Attack and Move at the same time. But Melee units like zerglings won't attack you. Play LoH, and they won't attack I believe.

Unless they cannot pass, they will not attack you.

I believe I read something qPirateKing wrote in the LoH thread that said 30% of the melee units are agressive. As in, they might not have attacked in LoH because they were programmed not to.

I know nothing about programming and all that... Program it so that the game changes?? Is that modding it?

Yes, there is a reason for that.

When the attack action was created it was created to attack a certain target, like you highlighted. Less-important targets are passed over when using the attack action.

The patrol action on the other hand was created to patrol over a large area to scout for enemy units of any kind. That is why when patrolling no structures are passed over and are dealt with.

It's still useful for us mappers when we want to decide upon the aggressiveness of enemy units.

Like Omega, I learned the hard way. I had like a hundred zerglings (along with other units) on attack to location on one map, which was like a gauntlet where the players had to destroy the enemy before they killed-off a guy in a base at the end of the gauntlet.

There were a lot of friendly comp units that the enemy was supposed to get bogged-down in (basically, I hoped that the zerglings etc. would be distracted). They completely ignored everything except siege tanks, and even then they only attacked properly for a few seconds before continuing on their way.

Until I changed their behaviour to patrol, they won every time because they just swamped the base at the bottom.
