Depends on how you define noob, If you mean never played game and just started today and never played or even tested the game and went stright for battle.net and even said he was new, Then Calling him noob is not right... As you say we where all new at some point...

Actually... not playing SC and right away going on bnet IS noobish, those people should kow to first finish the SC&BW campaigns play some melee and only than go on bnet.
Besides the campaign is awesome and worth it.

All n00bs deserve to get their heads blown off!

We were all newbies at some point. Big difference.

yep i hate when people (kids) especially clan members (but not in here) call other people newbs online. i think its a disgrace to the community and they should be kicked off of starcraft jsut by saying noob or using bad language or or a poor winner. yes im a newb at almost everygame, but i get better at it everyday.
i will come back and haunt you to the people that called me newb.

I remember saying once before that they're two seperate words.
Newb = Someone who is new to something
Noob = Someone who acts stupid, flames, etc

Those aren't the "official" descriptions of them, Moose. Not everyone even thinks like that.

As far as newb and noob go, they change around a lot between people and communities, so I say that anyone who uses either seriously is someone who shouldn't bother typing messages to other people while they are playing games.

Hey, whenever I get into a map I've never played before, I tell them straight up that I'm a n00b (or newbie, but you get the point). If they ban me, well, I can understand that. Nine times out of ten, people wouldn't care, and some veterans would help you as well.

And then again, there are the "n00b" noobs, who are censored.gif ing idiots and don't listen at all. It's fine to be new at something, but it is NOT fine to keep on screwing up when we tell you exactly what to do, ESPECIALLY when it's not something complicated. If it is something really hard and/or complicated, then you can't blame them for not getting it right. But if it something like "Stop suiciding your men!" or "Build a few units for defense", then they would be n00bs if they don't listen.

Newb - Not a word.
Noob - Not a word.
N00b - Not a word.

Nub - 1. A protuberance or knob. ; 2. A small lump. ; 3. The essence; the core: the nub of a story.

Newbie - Slang - One that is new to something, especially a novice at using computer technology or the Internet.

Often I find people calling people n00bs are n00bs themselves. It's all well and dandy if you just want to play challanging matches but there's no point in making a discussion out of it. I was never a n00b. Maybe a newb, but a well informed one. If you don't want to play campain and go strait to b.net that's fine too. Just read the blizzard FAQ before asking a dozen questions about chat commands. To be honest the sc campain doesn't teach you much about the game as far as efficiency and stratagy go, you either have to get a friend to teach you that, have played from the beggining or read up on the game.

In short, if you're a n00b, you generally stay a n00b due to your repulsive personality. If you're a newb I guess you just have to work your way up if you intend on playing this game for a long time (and not just between friends).

As has been said before, there's a distinction between 'noob' and 'newb', but anyway..
I don't really care.
I find it perfectly fair, because it allows me to spot who the idiots that think that random flames based off of nothing are original and witty are.
And, as a general rule, those people are idiots who don't have opinions worth wasting care about.

I classify noobs as people who have no clue what so ever what they are doing in the game (or the computer for that matter) I have only met 2 noobs in my entire experience of being online. The derogitory word has been overused to describe people who simply make mistakes. (I was once called a noob, even though I was winning in the game) And yes, newbs are beginers, who simply haven't gotten used to the game yet, it is not bad to be called a newb.

Actually...

Newcomer means someone who's new to something.
Newbie means what DK said, like a net newcomer.
Newb is what you get when people are too lazy to write newbie.
Noob is what you get when people are too lazy to write newb.
N00b is what you get when people think 1337 is cool but they don't really know how to use it and write noob on 1337 lite' and instead of |\|008 they write noob.
Nub is something totaly different and has nothing to do with the topic, but lamers sometimes say nub because they're too lazy to say n00b.
