Report, edit, etc...Posted by Screwed on 2005-03-10 at 02:59:05
First of all, I would thank you guys in advance for helping me out with this school survey. Your spendingof time on this is highly appreciated.

First of all, you don't have to answer each question. However, if the answer to the question is 'no', please don't leave the question out. Instead, reply with a 'no'.

Now I will explain what my homework is about: It's about the public views about boy racing (also known as street racing). Street racers are a group of teenagers or young adults who get up really late at night and go berserk racing on the empty roads. However sometimes, they end up killing people or a homicide happens. Most of the teenagers are underage. Under most circumstances, they are usually overriding speed limits and leaking oily substances onto the road that may cause a crash - which is illegal.

Q1: Do you believe street racing is a nuisance, appropriate or acceptable?

Q2: Do you have any close friends or relatives/ families that does boy racing?

Q3: If yes, what type of person are they?

Q4: How has street racers influenced your life? (Whether physically, mentally, directly or indirectly)

Q5: How have this view differed from yours 5 years ago?

Q6: What do you believe to be the appropriate driving age? Why?

Q7: What are your attitudes and feelings towards street racers? (fairness, justice etc.) Why do you think they boy race?

Q8: What is your typical image of a street racer? What words would you mainly use to define them?

Q9: How well do you think the government have dealt with the issues of street racing?

Q10: What do you believe to be an appropriate punishment and/ or solution for street racing?

Q11: What flaws may be in this system/ solution? (Lack of funds, support, public attention etc.)

Q12: Personal Experiences? Tales, Stories, News, Anything they have dealt to the environment?

Q13: Anything you want to add.

Thank you all very much. Just to notify you all that I will be doing a 40 hour 'no technology famine' tomorrow to raise money for the poor in Africa so I will not be checking this thread until Sunday morning afternoon, which is 60 - 70 hours from now. (Just saying it so people won't wonder if I've ditched or became ignorant of the thread. When I came back, I'll give you guys a big thank you again)

Ok heres my reply to your survey. closedeyes.gif

Q1: Do you believe street racing is a nuisance, appropriate or acceptable?
Well I don’t believe in street racing in cities, if you race do it in open areas.
Q2: Do you have any close friends or relatives/ families that does boy racing?
A freind of mine has raced.
Q3: If yes, what type of person are they?
Loud
Q4: How has street racers influenced your life? (Whether physically, mentally, directly or indirectly)
Not too much, but if anything it would probably be through media
Q5: How have this view differed from yours 5 years ago?
5 years ago I would have been like wth is street racing
Q6: What do you believe to be the appropriate driving age? Why?
16, because if you know how to drive a car you shouldn’t have to wait. They should just make harder driving tests.
Q7: What are your attitudes and feelings towards street racers? (fairness, justice etc.) Why do you think they boy race?
Well, money is always a problem. Everywhere, I myself would probably end up racing if I thought I had a chance of winning
Q8: What is your typical image of a street racer? What words would you mainly use to define them?
Ruff Ryda’s
Q9: How well do you think the government have dealt with the issues of street racing?
They have dealt with it a great deal, you don’t see it much
Q10: What do you believe to be an appropriate punishment and/ or solution for street racing?
Set up races with the help of authorities.
Q11: What flaws may be in this system/ solution? (Lack of funds, support, public attention etc.)
Probably lack of attention from monitoring authories.
Q12: Personal Experiences? Tales, Stories, News, Anything they have dealt to the environment?
I saw a race once, I remember somebody rolled a car into a snowbank, because it was icy on a corner, it was pretty horrific.
Q13: Anything you want to add.
Don’t suveys usually ask for multiple choice options?

Please bare with me... Yes, I know, this is possibly one of the longest posts I have ever made (and I used more than 6000 characters! Wow! w00t.gif ).

Q1: Do you believe street racing is a nuisance, appropriate or acceptable?
It depends. If it is done on your own private property and it isn't disturbing anything else, then I think it is ok. I think it is ok if the conditions are ok for it... such as you aren't disturbing anything, your doing it on a rural highway (where you can see what is for more than 10 miles around you without anything blocking your field of vision), and there isn't anybody around. If these conditions are met, then I think it is all right to do it - if you are willing to except the risks. Furthermore, there are laws against this where I live. If you are caught, then you risk:

1. Your driver's license being instantly suspended. First offence: it's up to police officer whether or not to give you a 30-day suspension. Second offence: 30 days minimum. Third offence: 60 days minimum. Forth offence: 120 days minimum. 5th offence: you loss your drivers license. You have to wait for more than 365 days before you can take the test to get a new drivers license. Upon getting a new one, you have to wait for another 2 years before you can have a full drivers license again. During this time, you have to have a person with a full drivers license with you at all times when you are driving your vehicle. (Ya, I know, that's some heavy poo.gif ! But it seems to be working).
2. Your car is towed away (and impounded)
3. You are arrested and taken to jail
4. A combination of 1-3 happening to you

Q2: Do you have any close friends or relatives/ families that does boy racing?

I have a friend who street races... I have seen him get his vehicle up to 140 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone...

I have street raced before. The only times I have done this is when I compete against myself, and the conditions in q1 are meet. I only do it when it is safe to do so (which isn't that often).

Q3: If yes, what type of person are they?

I think you guys know me ^_^. I am not that much different in real life than I am on here... Well, ok, I do more stupid stuff in real life then I do here (such as making BBQ bombs laugh.gif ) As for my friend, he is just crazy. He will do anything if the price is right. (Well, ok, almost anything... I don't want to offer him money if he kills himself. That's just stupid.)

Q4: How has street racers influenced your life? (Whether physically, mentally, directly or indirectly)

It hasn't changed me that much... the only times I have done it is for the adrenaline rush. However, when I am craving that adrenaline rush, I will go play halo. That will take the craving away.

Q5: How have this view differed from yours 5 years ago?

My view about this is still the same. If you are going to do this, and your not going to wait until the conditions (stated in the first question) are right, then you’re just asking for something bad to happen. You know the saying, "Actions speak louder than words"? In which case, your actions are calling you a stupid idiot.

Over the course of the last 4 years, there have been more than 40 people that have been killed from street racing. More than 50% of them have flown, yes flown, more than 100 yards from the spot they were hit. One of the people that were killed, instantly died (thankfully)... This person wasn't found until 4 days later. Guess how far she had gone? She was more than 500 yards away from the scene of the accident. ohno.gif Of the 50% percent that have flown, more than 25% of those people were instantly killed. Quite often the car was a total write off. In fact, a car's parts were found more than 200 yards away from one of the car accidents.

Q6: What do you believe to be the appropriate driving age? Why?

I think the appropriate driving age should be 16. This is the time when you are starting to go to high school and you are most likely trying to get a job somewhere. It is a time where you are trying to figure out where you’re live begins and where your parent’s lives begin. It is a time when you are trying to figure out how to live in the world adults do. It is a time when you are trying to become independent. Being able to get around where you live and go places helps this process. (Believe me, I am 19 years old and I have gone through this process. It wasn't exactly fun because I didn't have access to a car, and at the time, anyone could pay for the whole bus system by paying 20$ US.)

I live in a city where it is quite easy to get around by bus. Most other cities aren't as fortunate as mine to have a great bus system. This is why having a car is a must.

Q7: What are your attitudes and feelings towards street racers? (fairness, justice etc.) Why do you think they boy race?

Hmmm, I think the last 6 answers have answered this question.

Q8: What is your typical image of a street racer? What words would you mainly use to define them?

I don't mean to be a racist person or stereotype people here (which I don't like doing), but most of the people I see street racing happen to be 20 - 30 years of age and have a middle eastern decent.
On the other hand, I have seen females street racing. They usually are Caucasian. (Yes, that’s right – teenage girls/females! So don’t think males are the only sex that do this.)

Q9: How well do you think the government have dealt with the issues of street racing?

Please see questions 2, 4, and 5.

Q9: How well do you think the government have dealt with the issues of street racing?

I think they have done their job quite well. You see, they must balance the rights that law-abiding citizens have, while trying to keep the street racers off of the streets. Well, now that I think about it, they have done their job quite well, but there still is room for improvement. They have a track set aside specify for this, but I have heard it is much to short and to expensive to use. If this track was extended, I have a feeling more than 75% of street racers would get off of the public streets, and onto this track.*

*In order to get to this track, you have to drive more than 20 miles away from civilization, so it's pretty safe to say you won't be hitting any pedestrians.

Q10: What do you believe to be an appropriate punishment and/ or solution for street racing?

Please see question, 1, 2, 4, 5, and 9.

Q11: What flaws may be in this system/ solution? (Lack of funds, support, public attention etc.)

Please see question 9.

Also, there has been more a LOT of media attention over the past 4 years on this subject. I think it is among one of the most reported topics over the past 4 years. (The next one would be photo ops for those people in power, but that is beside the point.)

Q12: Personal Experiences? Tales, Stories, News, Anything they have dealt to the environment?

Please see questions 1, 2, and 4.

Thank you guys both all so much. smile.gif

Hmm, I don't really know what else to say.. but I'll give you both 100 minerals each. I know its not a lot and you guys probably dont need it. But I just wanted to give it to show a token of my gratitude.

Edit (After Chu posted): I know I gave rantent and Max both 100 minerals, but I gave them those because they didn't know they would be getting the minerals. I'm still really open to receive more survey entries (If you still want to help me smile.gif ) But I'm afraid I can't give out anymore minerals.

PS: I still sent Chu 100 minerals anyways. smile.gif

QUOTE
Q1: Do you believe street racing is a nuisance, appropriate or acceptable?

No, not really. As long as they take care to drive responsibly and don't bother anyone around them (like screaching through the streets of neighborhoods at 2am) then it's completely fine to me.
QUOTE
Q2: Do you have any close friends or relatives/ families that does boy racing?

Yes, a few of my friends were part of RedLineRacing for a while, but they got out of it due to money issues. Plus they weren't really big into racing in the first place. It was mostly just Fast and the Furious craze bringing out a lot of people.
QUOTE
Q3: If yes, what type of person are they?

They are the type who always stay open minded. Always look for some way to have some fun.
QUOTE
Q4: How has street racers influenced your life? (Whether physically, mentally, directly or indirectly)

It hasn't at all, really. All I can say is that i've watched quite a bit of it and didn't find it much to my liking. Too many restrictions due to law enforcement.
QUOTE
Q5: How have this view differed from yours 5 years ago?

5 years ago I knew almost nothing about street racing and didn't really care if I did or not. I wasn't even driving back then.
QUOTE
Q6: What do you believe to be the appropriate driving age? Why?

I think 16 is the perfect age but letting people 15 and up learn with a parent/guardian is fine too. This is when people are just starting to mature and they take on new responsibilities to speed up the process. Driving is essential to speeding it up because they can independentally get jobs and do things they normally relied on their parents to help them with.
QUOTE
Q7: What are your attitudes and feelings towards street racers? (fairness, justice etc.) Why do you think they boy race?

Haven't really thought about it, i'm not around them at all anymore.
QUOTE
Q8: What is your typical image of a street racer? What words would you mainly use to define them?

I would see the typical street racer as your typical person. Always trying to find ways to outlet themselves, express themselves. If racing is how they feel most free to do this, then I think that defines them.
QUOTE
Q9: How well do you think the government have dealt with the issues of street racing?

They keep too many limits on it, just like everything else that is growing out of their control.
QUOTE
Q10: What do you believe to be an appropriate punishment and/ or solution for street racing?

There is no need to punish or find a solution for it. Instead of restricting it, it should be moderated.
QUOTE
Q11: What flaws may be in this system/ solution? (Lack of funds, support, public attention etc.)

There will always be flaws but not all rear their ugly heads untill you actually do it. I cant see any problem with it but you never know until you try.
QUOTE
Q12: Personal Experiences? Tales, Stories, News, Anything they have dealt to the environment?

Nothing to talk about really.
QUOTE
Q13: Anything you want to add.

This questionaire seemed to be directed against street racing.
