I hevn't pickedout a prize for this, but it should be good <donation accepted kindly>

Decode this message to plaintext:

CODE
ZMPF AL NW KIBBGUCYL IOMAVEX VX BEMX RFVC AXTLKD AE GOVHUBLVN EGVAWHRI PVD GYPOIQZEEOVG.  Q YI JNSWDMT CRY JI KVUSDM EP VMDVRL.  QP YWK VDC OHIZ EQKT, FVC MDI D YWBVB FIHRQ AWGAIOAYHXXKZF.

PM or post the answer; first one wins.

Good luck.

Nobody is smart enough? Come on...

I'll give you a huge hint. If the first word were AAAA it would be encrypted as HEIM.

Just because we don't want to spend our time finding out about some dumb code doesn't mean we aren't smart enough.

I used up 2 hours on thursday trying to decipher it but I had not luck. I might try it again with your clue.

Does it have anything to do with multiples of 4?

Does it have anything to do with multiples of 4?

I wasn't able to figure it out, but I'm pretty sure it depends where the letter is in the word. I tried checking values for each letter (a=1) and using their position in the words, but I can't find the algorithm to convert them.

CODE

Position     1 2 3 4     1 2 3 4
Letters      A A A A    H E I M
Value        1 1 1 1    8 5 9 13

Now if you can find the pattern between the position, value, and final value you might have something. For example the first letter is A which has a position number of 1, a value of 1, and a final value of 8 (A -> H). The second letter is also an A which has a position number 2, a value of 1, and final value of 5 (A -> E). I could be totally off, but *meh*.

Edit: Actually I think it's the other way around HEIM -> AAAA. That might change things. :/

No, no plaintext AAAA becomes HEIM

and plaintext AAAAAA becomes HEIMID

(this is true only if they were the first in the message)

I shouldn't give as much a prize because of all these hints tongue.gif

There are much harder ciphers I could use.

Out of curiosity who's read The Code Book by Simon Sighn? Encrypting ownage tongue.gif

You're getting there... 'cept my key isn't HEIM.

i might be getting it, it looks like it decreases, increases or some crap. but its late and i couldnt do every letter, so good luck finding nothing!

Watch it be just a bunch or random letters and I wasted 2 hours doing nothing crazy.gif
Ahh well. Time to use up more time again to look for it!

I tried using a copy of the Enigma machine on my comp to decipher it.

It obviously isn't encrypted using Enigma. pinch.gif

Nope, think earlier. This cipher was use in like the 1500's (invented) I think.

In that case, it's likely to be a form of the Vigenere cipher.

*CaptainWill sets about breaking it.

Wow some brains! blink.gif

It is yes "a form" of it but I'm rather sneaky....

Can we only send an answer in once?

EDIT: And would it be possible to give us the key word? angel_not.gif

You can venture as many answers as you wish.

The key isn't freaking obvious???

and plaintext AAAAAA becomes HEIMID

+7 +3 +6 +9 + 4 -2
-
+7 +4 +8 +12 +8 +3 (-3, +4, +4, -4, -5)
-
+6+1 +3+2 +6+3 +9+4 +4+5 -3+6 (+3 -3 +3 -5 -7)
-
I guess no easy mathematical equations fit into it...

I DID say it was a form of the Vigenere cipher...

Or maybe you've never heard of it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2005-03-21 at 00:05:09
Damnit this would be so much easier with a key. Well now you've got me trying to crack it as well.

I'll tell you this: I did something very minor to the text before applying the big cipher. 'nother hint: First word is THIS.
