Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Seriously need help...

Well... Hum... As many of you people know, I still don't know what do to later of my life... So... I have about 3 weeks to finily decide my official program I will choose; and some things made me realize that I might be done for the computer domain (are you even surprised ¬¬)

I'm gonna have to do alot of research for myself, but the orientation woman told me to ask you guys here since I knew most of you well; since most of you guys want to go into computers too, what will it be like? What are the things you need to know how to program things or webmaster sites or things like that? I realized I didn't hate doing what Yoshi asks me to do, which is, get something up and organize it and all...

Is it difficult to learn? I'm lazy but I... I want to learn things like Yoshi or Wintermute or anyone that knows it. I'm officially jaleous of you guys's knowledge!! THERE!!! xD

Just need to know if any of you have any tips for that...

I seriously need to decide soon or I'll be screwed...

Thanks.

Heh, the pressures on SP, eh?

Im not the person to ask but...

Well making websites and such, that isn't too hard, HTML is fairly easy to learn and use, but making ones that actually look good is a different story. I know theres better ways to make websites but HTML is a good start, heres a good site to get some info: Web Monkey
Yet, Yoshi would be a better person to ask. <_<

I can tell you what I'm planning on doing after high school, going to Digipen institute of technology, to learn basically how to make games, such as programming, character design, etc.

Well, not much help, but hope its something, good luck SP! happy.gif

Well tell me more please. I like video games too but I'm not quite very knowing of what programming video games would be... What made you choose that? What will you have to do? Any lotsa computer to do or anything? Is it working with hands too or it's purely with programming stuffs?

That's things I need to know too... I HAVE to explore anything that interests me.

Well the odvious reasons for choosing a career in video games, because I love them and have been with them my entire life. Programming is not too hard, and you dont learn just that. Then later on when you are in a company who makes games, you will get a specific job such as character design, and programmer.

Pretty much, go into this carrer if you like games.

Want to learn and lazy are conflicting things. To excell in computers, you need to have a big interest in the stuff, and be VERY open to learning more and having fun.

If you want to do anything in technology, you have to have a big interest in learning more. I'm willing to help you along the way, but you have to show interest before I start so I dont waste my time B)

Hmm, the only problem of taking a career in computers is that programmers these days are a dime a dozen. To really get yourself noticed, you have to be really smart or unique.

It depends on which field of computers/programming you want to go into. If you just want to "program" thing, you aren't going to go far. Maybe you'd want to take some media courses if you're going into the more commercial part of programming, or some other technology courses if you want to work more will machinery and stuff like that.

Knowledge-wise, it's usually experience that counts. Maybe working with Yoshi some more and do some odd jobs here and there would help. There are always many different courses around.

I never wanted to be a programmer (used to be)

Instead of looking at my abilites, I looked at a high demanded job. So far im going to go into computer company server secerity.

I'm looking at something I'd like to do for a career. Of course, that means a decent pay, and a job that isn't repetitive, like paperwork kind of repetitive, or assebly line kind of work. Nor do I want to be a single peon out of 245171265 people. So basically...I'm screwed.

Actually, computer is the most demanded people out here... I don't see any problem with entering there.

And frankly, I seriously don't care MUCH about the money I make, for I HARDLY spend anything on anything... I'm 17, soon-to-be 18 and I have yet to find myself a work... You see the point.

And you have to take the "lazy" definition at a better level. I LIKE learning, I like doing fun stuffs but I'm just... not used to them... I just have yet to find what sector interests me the most...

Its generally not too hard, it just takes time. If you're going to do it, start now. There's not really anything you can do to make yourself learn faster, you just need to spend time at it.

IMO, web-design won't really pay. Like said before, HTML is easy to learn. Even PHP can be learned pretty easily. With all this stuff so easy, nobody is really going to pay for it. If you're going programming, I get more advanced stuff like C++ and such.

Or you could always just learn machine code. That seems to work well... wink.gif

Well IF I'd take the computer course, I WOULD have programming courses and I see some JAVA courses too near the end... Otherwise it's mainly situated onto network building, security, fixing, etc...

I don't quite know exactly what they are; that's why I'm asking anyone here.

Depends on what you wanna do

What you will enjoy

or

With what you will earn money

Its kinda impossible to get both at same time... computer programming wont get you so far alone... as for yoshi, a good complement would be a great hacker, sounds weird but... if you the best hacker... you will be obviulsy the best one in defending ur ass happy.gif, it all depends on what you wanna do... as for me, im going to study any computing thing (for the title) and another career for money, anyways you 17, take a break, as for me, i will have a year of no school, relax and researching, anyways, if you take your time, you will notice that studying something related to computers is useless... you can learn alone easily with a bit of time everyday... remember most of the guys that do this censored.gif just sits at home wink.gif, while they work at other things, it all depends on the point of view

Even PHP can be learned pretty easily.

Its a b*tch though. It likes to mess up and sometimes has compatibility issues.

What about ASP? Is that easier to learn? It certainly seems more universal...

I dont know a censored.gif about asp, but certainly PHP is the hardest web lenguages, and the one with most features tho... more customizable... but back to topic smile.gif

But they dont like to have compatibility with one another. I cant get multipule PHP scripts to work together most of the time...

Fun stuff. I might be learning ASP in the near future.
