The site has been slightly on the downfall, games and mods have been taken down and apparently, the godly admins don't even care... They say their attention is elsewhere.
Well, being the supreme being
of Staredit.net, I will enlighten you all.
Instead of continually working on an Invision based system, they started writing their own site with the basis of making it as efficient, organized, and as light as possible. They finally got sick of the multitudes and multitudes of unnecessary lines of code, sql tables + columns, and poor mods.
Although there is a lot of work still to be done by them, here's some previews:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6429.jpgYou can see multiple new features in here: Full clan support, new post customization (such as post backgrounds)... all wrapped up in a sexier post view.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6437.pngThe new board index (still missing some key features), however as you can see has 2 forums per row. Making that page take up less space. Less scrolling!
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6438.pngThe new error handler. Is capable of telling you more than one error, plus looks much better.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6439.pngThe inside of one of our test forums. Still supports stickies, global announcements, and all the things you're used to. However, now you can see if a topic has been deleted, who did it, and why.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6440.pngThe end of those annoying error pages. When you make mistakes on a form, it will tell you where you messed up, and keeps all the data intact.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6430.jpgHigher levels of integration site-wide. More personalized configuations.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6431.jpgXtended profiles (conceptual).
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6435.jpgClear view of the drop dead sexiness of Yoshi's creativity.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6432.jpgWhat would a new sen version be without a new navigation layout? And... a customizable favorites menu. More perks: The menu will fill up the nav section no matter what your resolution may be, images aren't as huge as 4.1 for better loading times, 100% compatiable with every resolution with no unnecessary image downloading. Terrain by Isolated himself.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Atta...ost&id=6441.jpgAnd all projects need conceptual design art, here's something I intercepted during a transfer.
Overall features: Most of the site uses the same .png transparency used in the menu system, and firefox takes full advantage of this. Partial transparency makes the page look super sexy. I suggest a conversion of all IE users.
Surprised? You shouldn't be. Yoshi has been hinting towards it by asking if "My Assistant" was necessary, babbling about a secret project... Isolated was asking for help finding sexy terrain...
So what happens next? Well, if they finish the page and feel it's good enough to use, a massive data restructuring will occur. The current page will be taken down piece by piece and the data tables transferred to the new site. For example, one day, no one will be able to register... then the dldb won't accept any more files... then the forums will be locked except for garbage with a notice "All new posts won't be transferred to the new site" and such as.
The only negatives of this site is they will be doing all the coding, which means, there won't immediataly be games such as Pets, Armies, Arcade and such.
The pages additionally load extremely faster. About 5-10 seconds on a 56k connection if you need to redownload all the images.
This isn't 100% certain yet, but there's a good chance they will succeed in their goals. If they don't get invision 2.1, any request for a refund of the donations made to get that license will be honored. Otherwise, all past donations will be redirected towards offsetting a higher cost / month server fee (they need more harddrive space, especially during the transfer).
