what is the best way to use a wav, or any other sound in a map?
in terms of compression, size, and type.... say i had a 1mb in size WAV,
how much can it be compressed, b4 or in the editor?

that helps, i wasnt sure about which type to convert to...

ps, why cant i open regular sound files, in the recorder?
for instance it says my wav file "starwars theme" isnt a valid wav sound...
is that because of the length (over 1 minute) or is the wav somehow protected so that it cant be altered?

Make sure it is a wav file. Try playing it in Windows Media Player and such. The file extension should be .wav

You should be able to open all wavs with sound recorder.

If you want, post the file and I'll see what's up.

i checked the properties (before all this) and it is an mp3, so i clicked 'save as'
______.wav (from Media Player), and then checked the properties of that file, it says its a WAV, but it still gives me that error when i try running it throught the recorder...

EDIT: im on dlup, or i woulda posted the while thing, im not even sure if whats attached will work...

Renaming an extension of an MP3 sound to .WAV does not convert its format, it just changes how Windows will identify the file as. Its kind of like calling a turtle a turkey. Though you now identify a turtle as a turkey, the turtle is still a turtle.

If you want to convert your MP3 file into WAV format, Google for the software.

If you have a music file in your map that longer than about 20 seconds, it would take forever when people download the map from you on the Battle.net, maybe you could ask someone for knowing how to compress or make the file size smaller and its faster for dl. I dont even know how to do that.. sad.gif

Uhm, if you want an MP3 converted, just use DecodePro from the SEN DB. Then compress it and what not in MS Sound Recorder. Pretty simple compression, and I'm sure there is better, but for the lazy man, tha's about it.
