Hahaha, i was just testing melee maps and the crazy stuff you can do in them...
I am planning on useing these on my next melee map. I am planning to make it so when you start, there is a laser right on the middle of each CC, and I will make some small design in the middle of the map with lasers. There will also be a bunch of nuke explosions right when you start. And in some random places i will put a cursor that just stays there.
Can anybody think of any reasons, that this would interfere gameplay so that people wouldn't like it?
BTW: This is my 300th post!
ADDITION:
Hmmm, maybe its not my 300th, its my 299th.
Good for you for getting as many posts as you have. Unless the admin have restored the post count and the member's groups to the way they were before the karmaa system was put into place, you won't be getting your green name.
Now, as for sprites... The only sprite I know of that will stay in the game for more than 5 seconds is the one that you see after right clicking in the game area of your screen (when your playing SC). All of the other sprites I know of will disappear within 3 seconds - if you can even see them at all during the game.
umm, no. I tested all this. The laser, cursor, startlocation, and map revealer sprites stay forever. Other sprites just disapear right away, like bullets and explosions.
I am sure about this. I tested it many times.
This is a bad idea but if you want to be super annoying you can put a bunch of sprite units all over the place.
But anyways I don't think that nuke dots should be in the game. If a person nukes on the dot the the person getting nuked will not get scared because he thinks it is just a sprite when it really is a nuke. Just my opinnion.
That would be funny...
Odd: Is it that one or that one...
*nuke started to fall*
Odd: I guess it was that one...
Despite that classy, "nuclear launch detected"? I don't know, not that Terrans rush nukes often but it might cause minor imbalances. Try it if you like, and we can have a TvP match where one of us rushes nukes... I don't remember the build order though =( ... and the fact that you'll be expecting it will make it difficult to pull it off, if not impossible.
Sprites in melee maps? does it works lol..
I never see sprites in melee maps
maybe you are right!! I gonan try see if it works. Brb.....----Wtf it made swarm noises when I clicked started, and I did put swarm sprites too.
COOL LOL IT WORKS
uhh humm.... its good if you try and work more on it, but I suggest you not to put whole bunch of crap sprites layers LOL
because if I was playing your maps I will quit rightaway when the game started, because what happen if I see a whole bunch of crap?but thanks for thr ideas of putting sprites layers in melee maps anyways.
I don't see a reason to get closer to the sprite limit. Actually, this post is purely a test to see if my picture will show.
Of course if I did this I wouldnt use more than 10 sprites.
Like I said, I just had to think of something to say that sounded remotely on topic.
For all the people who think sprites don't work in melee, how come doodads work in melee?
I've seen a melee (Fastest money map) map with sprites... and square terrain... it all seemed too UMS to actually be played as melee.
Thank you for backing up my use of sprite use in melee maps Nuclear.
Well sprites WOULD look pretty good in melee if you can use them correctly.....
Like....maybe a recall effect at the start to make it look like the workers and buildings recalled in. Or the right-click circle thingies for marking like...an expansion...
My point is that sprites look good if you use them right. So a giant mess of nuke dots does not count as right....lol...
EDIT: Lol, remind me to look at the post times as well. XD
Yea, this topic is pretty much dead. Thanks for your input though.

ditto,
hey you could make a fake cliff side o something where units could move through beucuase it would just be a spirit and not actually there.

I agree. I have never seen any kind of map like this, nor do I want to.
Also, why would you want to add sprites to a melee map? To make it look fancy? Nobody cares about the terrain, they care more about the game.
Ahhh, the poor thread it was brought back from the dead TWO whole times!!!
Let it die in peace.
You should have tons or forests then it's useful for the shadow trees give. To cover under fire.
Pylon auras, shadow sprites, anything that overlaps units (trees, rock formations, buildings, etc. doodads), and fake minerals/gas are the only sprites I can think of that would have any effect in a melee game.
Except maybe P12 unit sprites.
I wasnt soo much intending it for changing gameplay as much as for decoration.
Come on, be creative. Throw them in, why not? It could be used as a TINY TINY TINY advantage for terran, because of the red dots.
Actually I decided a long time ago, that it would be a stupid idea.
