Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> BlizzHard campaign. Too easy first time?

I have poked around SEN for almost 3 months now and have downloaded so many cool files! In my 3 months of leaving small tidbits of positive praise here and there, I felt it was time I took a crack at mapmaking myself.

Yes, I am that guy who always seems to be talking about Starcraft’s Ai. I really also enjoy single-player starcraft and wanted my first “map project” to be scenario/campaign related.

I started this project by analyizing “Blizzard’s” single-player maps, and that’s when this idea came to me. I just thought it would be fun to rewrite the single-player campaign mission’s with improved Ai’s. Maybe you never bothered playing the single player missions because they were just too easy? Or you haven't played them in a long time for the same reason?

Consider these the "next" difficulty level. I realize this falls a bit more into the category of modding than map making, but hey I’m getting closer! I mean the focus of this file is on the “maps” And in effect since there are 10+ missions per campaign this is like 30 new maps! I hope to make some "real" maps soon! Unlike most mods this doesn’t change any of the unit stats, sprites, text, etc. None of the map’s triggers, terrain, etc has been changed. It’s the same game… just a bit more challenging! I mean how much can a 100kb file change?

With almost 60 individual town scripts eventually edited in some form, I managed to test most of the missions all the way to victory. Some I tried lame attempts to quickly defeat computer and ended up losing! My ego tells me I could have beaten them if I played smarter, but if you should happen to try this out and find some missions are just way too hard or perhaps too easy I apologize as I need to do more testing.

But give it a try, maybe you have a favorite “MAP” you’d like to revisit?
I hope you find a favorite mission inside and that all the missions are in fact enjoyably beatable!

okay. But blizzard's campaign isnt to basic. Its Classic. They were using the well... old, editors. its possible for them to use mega editors but they didnt becuz the maps of their time wasnt supposed to be like that. And blizzard didnt know what the crowd wanted. (we didnt want advanced maps, till we got advanced editors!) I was best for blizzard to make a normal, Classic Style game.

anyway, it would be weird seeing wackd up glitchy sprites, terrain and stuff. And the AI, i think is good for the campaign! of course, i need to dl your new one and compare! wink.gif

I'd like to see Ground Zero, or whats the other one? Battle cruisers attack you.
I'd also like to see the one with valkyries coming out and attack a whole swarm of mutals.

sckor:  I'd like to see Ground Zero

Ya that's a good one sckor! Don't "wish" to play it... Fire up the mod and play it! I think you'll like the new boost!

some tidbits of unsolicited hints/advice for this mission:
Mission 5a, Ground ZERO

1. obviously lift the cc, rax, and factory to safety during opening "NUKE" scene.
2. take advantage of the temporary "peace" and grab that gas node to the north to help build a metal army.
3. some sort of early cloak detection is a must or Mengsk will own you.
4. Medics don't always come to mind when describing a Terran Metal force, but in this mission a few with "restoration" teched are a nice accessory.

Mini spoiler:
Ok without giving too much away I will tell you that besides quicker and larger attacks, I've instructed Mengsk to build 2 extra factories bringing his total to 5. The added buildings definitely help the computer rebuild metal units faster. I realize a whooping 5 factories isn't that much, but the idea wasn't to build an unbeatable mission but rather a tougher one.

Good luck and have fun with this "new" mission. Let me know how you ended up beating it. smile.gif
