I've always like the ATB system over turn-based. Turn though supposely provides "more" strategy, but I still prefer non-turn based. It gets a little slow sometimes too.

Personally, I'd prefer non-turn based. It's just to slow for my preferences.

but dont you have to have a turn-based system to have time? cause time in a gaem is really just turns.(day 1, day 2...). also i need turns cause at the end of every turn the game does something.

but ok then, il make you guys change you minds about turn-based RPGs! cool1.gif

...
Player attacks Enemy
Enemy attacks Player
Player casts spell
Enemy attacks Player
Enemy attacks Player
Rinse, rather and repeat.

You mean Turn based combat RPG's

Yeah, i like em but not that much

I prefer if you just attack them and have not turns to attaack. It takes too long with turn based and if there is a time limit, the person migh get stressed out and do stupid things.

If its going to be turnbased then there has to be many other aspects to the game, take pokemon for example. I like the turnbased combat ^.^

Well... it depends... If it is turn based it is more strategic. If it isn't... then it is more action...
I personally perfer the action... blushing.gif

This is SC TBC maps, otherwise, this thread would have been moved to somewhere unrelated to Staredit.

Turn Based RPGs are fun and very interesting. It offers emphasis on enemy AI and depth in strategy such as defence, offence, counters, micro-management, and teamwork.

It only feels as if its long because the map is failing to keep your mind "storming" as you evade your enemy on its turn. If the the TB RPG is well made, it should keep your mind occupied and applying various evasive and counter tactics as your turn comes around.

You should have just as much fun on both you and your enemy's turn.

I started a project with a turn-based combat system for a RPG, 007Torrasque is making the system and then I will make the RPG... pretty unique idea though, never seen one except The Avarian Cronicles

Faith and Destiny is very good turn-based rpg, you should see it.

The idea itself isn't unique but finding maps with it is. Many of us who played games like FF7 or Poke'mon would have considered its system be incorporated into a map, like Angel did.

Turn based combat is rather dull by itself. I like Galgaia 2's approach of actual time inside a turn based combat system. You can make a command selection when a characters down time is done with, however, it takes x amount of time to start an execution of a command and y amount of time to actually execute the command.
You can get interrupted by various spells and attacks inside the x variable and can get/do counter attacks during the y variable.
It's just much funner seeing the chaos of combat through such a system, plus, position on the battlefield actually means something. For example, if your spell caster is farther away from an enemy, it takes longer for them to reach your character. Meanwhile, if a lower execution wait and faster execution time character is in the middle, you can easily counter an attack already in progress on your sexy white mage babe.

I highly doubt you can implement such a system in starcraft though. It's just that a traditional tbc is rather... unfun.

TBC, just seems so unrealistic. What kind of enemy would wait until you attack him?

Just normal is what I like. You need more control for it too.

It's just a battle slowed down. In real life, when you think something when ur fighting, you think of something to do, you can do anything, but TBC is just giving you the choices and you get to use whatever you want in battle, of course it's slow.

i tried to play this but when i bought weapons and equipped them my character wasn't using them, i had a dirk witch was supposed to do 15dmg but it kept saying you use your fists and do 5dmg

-edit- ok i kept playing figuring i was just doing something wrong, then i had enough money for the heal spell, and i've also got the fireball one, but when i put it in my equipment and try to use a spell it says i don't have one selected.

but anywasy so far i'm liking the sc turn based rpgs but this one doesn't seem to work

If anyone has played FFX-2 (yea, it sucked, but the battle system was actually quite interesting), you'll notice the battle system was turn-based, yet fast-paced. The ability to overlap a turn if you wait too long before selecting an attack, a longer wait in-between attacks depending on your attack type, as well as the fact that everything can attack at the same time, all contributes to a good 'turn-based' battle system yet should be fast enough to fit the B.Net populace.

Although turn-based games are easy for both developer and player, I prefer real-time over turn-based anyday. The only turn-based combat I liked was pokemon, and later, I got sick of it. I honestly can't stand FF games because of turn-based combat, which is a shame since I am interested in their stories. Real-time combat is better, but as long as there is variety to the combat, not just hack-and-slash.

I like both types, they both have unique advantages, so I'd have to answer Yes to liking turn based games. Though I can see why some people don't have the patience for them.

To those who dont like turn based-----DONT PLAY IT------but trust me man if you do it right and get it to perfection the map would get big only one rpg is tbc at the moment-faith in destiny(which is played all the time but was stoleN!) I can already feel the magic of rtc slipping away (if it hasnt already) and tbc shooting to the top and every rpg since yours (and a freind of mines) will be TbC! it feels great dont it? oh and i highly suggest following the style of faith and destiny.
