Current Version: 1.0.0.5

The map is REQUIRED to be protected by PROEdit before being uBeR@Te.

Read the readme!

There are ways to unprotect any protection and as PROEdit protection is slowly becoming known how to unprotect, I created this program to greater protect your maps.

This all started back when Clokr_ said something about not making more modifications on PROEdit. So I started to wonder how to greater protect maps. At first it was very simple, just delete this, delete that, bam better protected. I started experimenting and learning a bit about how other old versions of protection worked.

Clokr_ started his "secret project" and the release date is who knows when so for the time being, this program will be here to help you.

Clokr_, you are still cool man, I'm just helping you out happy.gif
I'm trying to help the entire mapmaking community.

Then I started learning VB to attempt to make a standalone trigger editor. Slowly learning how each section worked and how MpqCtl.ocx worked, I remembered this protection method and decided to make it.

Soon I thought about releasing my program. Should I actually release it? Would people yell at me? I talked to some of my testers and they all said to release it. It will help the community and nobody hates more map protection!

So I hope you enjoy this program!

Yes I know this program is very simple but I highly doubt I will be making any large addons to it.

Very nice. It's good to see that someone is still interested in working on protection programs.

I'll be sure to make a few Test-Runs once I ahev the damn.

Is it OK if I make a news psot about this at my site and maybe even upload the file? Or should I just link the file to SEN?

You have permission to upload the file to your site happy.gif

Or you can link it if you want to save bandwidth tongue.gif

BeeR has unlimited bandwidth and filespace Legacy so no worries tongue.gif

sounds nice and ive been waiting for this for a while when i first heard of it. just one question, it wont mess up your map right?

It just protects it, as far as I ran tests on it. If you find bugs, just tell LW ASAP and he'll fix them.

I'll wait until word is around that it's harder to break before I use it.

Are you positivly POSITVE that this is better than Proedit?
If it is Congrats
*Downloads*

Lets hope some stealers dont figure out how to unprotect this in liek 3 days lol

Well it takes something that is protected by PROEdit and adds something to it so it kind of has to be stronger doesn't it? tongue.gif

Or perhaps it could screw your map? For example, either A or B is needed for the map to run. Proedit deletes A. Uber@ation deletes B. The map corrupts. Is this possible if multiple protectors are used?

Nice job by the way, congrats.

I crafted this to go with PROEdit. After multiple tests I confirmed that it worked tongue.gif

GJ I guess. It doesn't add much, but as I see its a great update. You could talk with yoshi about upgrading proedit (yoshi is busy to do so).

ADDITION:
For the people that I see that are not sure, I hexed the chk and checked what it changes and yes, its a better protection.

Ok I say we banhammer Sandman because he's just being a dumbshit and spamming.

Good job Legacy! Something great comes out every so while these days tongue.gif

Protection is not very active now. People who know how to unprotect now are trying less. Are you saying Yoshi controls PROEdit now? I probably won't help upgrade PROEdit until after I learn more VB because right now my VB knowledge is close to nothing.

The first line = confused.gif

Protection as I stated above is not one of the most active things right now. And something great refers to this program correct? wink.gif

But we know it doesn't though. Screw the map I mean.

Could someone realisticly compare the current protection methods to each other by rating about how good each method is? I.E:

Guedit = 1
SCMToolkit = 1
Togi = 5
Proedit = 10
Uberate = 12?

Is this somewhat accurate?

EDIT: BTW Uberate undoes the mpq compression gained in Proedit so after compressing the map it will be about 20 KB larger. You will have to go back into WINMPQ or whatever to fix that.

Well, GUEdit and SCMToolkit could be unprotected with. SCMtoolkit is really the most primitive protection since all it does is either encrypts or deletes some sections. GUEdit deletes some string references as well as deleting sections. toGi's protector deletes/messes up some more string references and it can't be easily unprotected with. PROEdit adds random sections and deletes the most sections, as well as messing up the most string references. Finally, uBeR@TiOn adds some minor changes. So, I would really do it like this:

SCUM Protector = .5/1
SCMToolkit = 2
GUEdit = 4
toGi's Customized Shield = 7
PROEdit = 12
uBeR@TiOn = 13/14

...or something like it.

CHEDIT: Giving out names is a no-no.

I remember when I used to hate protected maps, but then I finally thought to myself: "Hey, if I could protect my maps, I know I would."

If the map maker took the time to protect it, maybe you shouldn't try unprotecting, but instead, try to contact the creator and ask for an unprotected version. People are more understanding that way, rather than having a hacked map floating around B.Net.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-03-29 at 06:34:42
uBeR@TiOn is more like 12.1 tongue.gif

I hopefully will be adding more protection onto it and try to work with PROEdit's compression. Sorry about the compression though!

That problem with the compression is actually a pretty big problem. On some of my maps the compression is worth 200kb.

It should be fixed by today or tomorrow if I can get my hands on Clokr.

[center]The highest level of protection I can get to work on my mac, is either my hacked up copy of GUE, or hexing. From what I hear about this having 20% better protection than ProEdit, I can only assume that it either makes your maps CHK even more unstable, or basically prevents damn map stealers from messing with your map for at least a few days.
Always good to see the SC community get new goodies, though!
