Dont know how well my map will fare, but here goes my newb attempt at melee maps. For some info, the bases you start in have terrible resources. There is only one expansion in the middle of the map, which has excellent resources. The map is very small and there are many ways in to bases, so it will most likely be a who-can-build-zerglings-faster competition.

Post a map image so I can delete mine (I am running low on global space):[attachmentid=7003]
Uhh I dont like the idea of 4 mineral patches at a base. It would take a while to get anywhere.
For four players there are no minerals, make expansions. This map would be much better with expansions and normal amouts of minerals.
I think that was a bad choice, I would change that.

The map is rather short on minerals and looks disturbingly uneven. Some sides have slightly more room than others.

It looks nice and could be balanced better with a bit of work. I like the way the terrain is laid out with the entrances to the bases and the center area.

Add a few more minerals and check player space.

holly crap man I hope those minerals are double the normal 1500.

I don't think having less than 8 or 9 patches is necessrily bad tho. However below say 6 and It definitely would seem to dramatically effect normal build orders. Because workers will be "waiting" for patches to clear, players may find that the "usual" number of workers severly stunts the economy.

I'd have to say that the map is quite unbalanced.

There are only 4 mineral patches at the main abses, you basicly can't do much with that. Only 1 expansion base and thats in the middle, during mid-game whoever controls that just won the game.

Protoss is screwed because there isn't many minerals and zerg has a small advantage becasue all other races require more resources.

I'll use this info in my next map. As to why i put limited minerals, it was to discourage rushing and also to encourage players to control the center, hopefully leading to nice battles.

Having four minerals forces playes to rush. 4-pool > all on this map.

Im aware of that, but thanks anyway biggrin.gif .
I must say that having anymap with less than 8 patches at main is a bad thing for non-zerg players.

Agreed.

Rushing is a viable tactic and is always a possibility; you shouldnt adjust a map simply for one strat.

And even if you do prevent rushing, this map has wayy too little minerals for 4 players. And naturally, that is to say there arent even any expansions, mind the middle.

How big is this map, anyway?

its 96x96.

Its not going to stop rushes, its going to encourage it. If players have less minerals, they know they have to end the game before they run out and have none.
