Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Starforge Chaging Terrain Type
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tdnfthe1 on 2005-04-01 at 16:58:38
Basically i need to use Squared Terrain, but Sf Changes it so that the map terrain style is not square(from my past experiences). So when i try to return to regular campaign editor or Scxe, i can't use anymore Isom terrain. Apparently there is also someglitch where starforge corrupts your map and can't save it unless using starforge, is there anyway around these glitches, or could you at least tell me how they work?

Thanks for any replies and Help
(If this is in the wrong Forum, Sorry)

P.S. What's with SCM Draft corrupting Maps?

Nothing's wrong with SCMD2 and corrupting maps...

Use SCMD2 for your ISOM terrain. I think it can also restore some?

No, your eternally screwed on this.
I don't know any ways to fix it.
The old program ISOM doesn't work.

But for future refernce...
Start the map in SCXE, save it, THEN GO TO SF and do terrain. Now this problem is gone smile.gif.

If you started it in SCXE, then your fine.
If you are so unsure, back it up before using SF. Even though I highly doubt you'll need to.

This are my opinions:
1)SCM Draft are better with other things like sounds editor, units properties....
2)both SCm Draft and SF are good for designing terrain, but in SCM draft you could change the brush to regular type or square.
3)Some people love StarForge, because they could type triggers real fast biggrin.gif
and thats include me, I dont know how to use triggers in SCM Draft and other triggers editor are gay cry.gif
4)Dont use Campain editor for maps that...like...you know, humm I dont know how to explain it. like... Campaign editor they dont have enough technique to make maps and sux..... confused.gif

My problem was will SF corrupt my map in 1 of 2 ways
1)If i Start a map in SCXE and then Use Starforge to make SOME square terrain then switch it back to SCXE will it make it so the entire map can no longer have ISOM Terrain?

2)Will SF corrupt a map if you try to reopen it in SCXE.

3)(New question)Will all versions of SF delete my Sound files?

Keep in mind the map was started in SCXE and has not touched SF yet.

1) No the entire map is not messed up.
2) What do you mean by corrupt?
3) No it does not delete the sounds...??

To Clarify what i said(i know i have bad explanations)

1)i just tried to Import my Map into SF, then revert back to SCXE, i could not save my map(hence Corrupt).

2)when changing between Starforge to SCXE, Starforge Deletes all your sounds
(I just tested this)
3)the entire map is messed up unless i continue to do everything under starforge triggers(yeah right).

Now that's it clear I'm somewhat convinced no1 has a solution for me adding square terrain but still using SCXE, so thanks anyways yall, I'll work with ISOM terrain.

1) It actually saves. You just think it doesn't wink.gif.
2) But you can put them back in...
3) Where the hell did you come up with that?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-04-01 at 21:10:41
Just use SCMD2. It's the best choice for terrain if you don't like the sounds being messed up.

1) Never happens to me unless I had sounds in the triggers.
2) It doesn't delete your sounds...
3) SF isn't the greatest editor ever tongue.gif

Yeah, SCMD2 has all the features Starforge has also ... with the exception of the advanced string editor and brushes for terrain.

1. Starforge hasn't deleted the ISOM section of the map since before version 1.2
If you place sqaure terrain over isometrical terrain then the ISOM section will still reconize the isometrical terrain under the sqaure. Thus editing over the sqaure terrain will make it seem bugged (this is the same with every editor)

2. If you are refering to the not being able to save problem open your map up in winmpq and delete the list file.

3. Some times, but just reload them in Staredit and they will work fine. (only problem is it adds a extra string every time you do that)

PS. His grammar isn't that bad, several people here have much worse. Give him a break.

According to what you and Rexy said, when I goto save a Starforge edited(terrain)
Map under SCXE and it says "Could not find File"File path". it really did save the map and i am not aware of this?

And if that is wrong, how would i go about opening the map in Winmpq(I've never heard of Winmpq).

Thanks if you can Clarify for me 1 last time. smile.gif

Edit: Just tested out what Rexy Said about it actually saves but it makes you think it doesn't. That's AMAZING. I think it's best that i tell you guys this is the #1 reason people don't use Starforge or SCMdraft, because average mappers think it messes up the map, and it can not be saved. if this information isn't highlighted in a tutorial, or explained when downloading starforge or SCMDraft, i really think it should.

Any Final Comments Appreciated (After which i will close this thread).
