Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Mini-map/Fog of War refreshes

Ok, another problem I'm trying to overcome: Ever notice how when a unit walks some distance, the area behind it can still be seen for a few seconds (before it reverts to fog)? And also, ever notice how the mini-map gets updated quickly on some things (like moving units, etc.), but others it only updates over periods of seconds?

My question is, what is the exact timing of these updates? I'm trying to find a way to exploit them so I can make effects with the mini-map and fog, but short of laboriously testing timings of triggers and such for either, I'm wondering if someone else hasn't already found this out already.

More importantly, I'm wondering if there's a way to con them into refreshing prematurely, like wait blockers for triggers. Anyone know anything about this?

I can't think of a way around this at the moment. I have found that the time needed with turning on and off the vision for a comp is often never the same; one time it took 20 seconds, with hypertriggers running, for me to see what the comp was seeing.

What about this? A unit moves from the bottom of the map to the top of the map. Nothing blocks it's path (ie, water, high ground). Ever few seconds a unit is spawned, and then removed for this unit. These spawned units are owned by the comp, and the unit that is moving to the top of the map is owned by the human player. The human player sees what the comp sees. However, it might not work very well, as I have pointed out in my first paragraph.

I was once told that the fog refreshes quicker when a unit is moving in that area. Like how it removes quickly for a unit walking into the fog but goes away slowly behind it.

Thats about the extent of my knowleage on the topic. And I'm not sure how relyable it is, sounds about right lol.

The fog on the map and on the minimap refreshes at the same time, about every 4 seconds, to create fog where you can no longer see. I don't think there is any way to speed up the refresh rate.

But I did manage to make a clickable marine under the fog.

ADDITION:
There may be a few other things wrong with it too...
Like not being able to move or die.

A fog clickable marine? Would that involve sprites by chance?

I would guess it is a extened player for like player 14 or something that is frozen. So therefore the unit itself has no vision.

Either that or he was using map hack.

I was seeing if 2x speed would effect the fog. (It dosen't)
I forgot about units freezing up, never saw a unit under the fog before!

Im sure a map hack would keep my marine at 0 life without dying.

Setting a unit's HP to 0 will always keep it alive. How exactly did you do the fog trick?

It was player 14.

Wow, this would be perfect for a haunted house or night time or something! w00t.gif

Yeah but you gotta place the player 14 (or 13) after every unit you placed that you want frozen and selectable in fog

Although using player 14 / 13 is gonna crash all the mac users

I remember this from somewhere back at BF but Having minimap pings makes the minimap update a lot quicker.

You can't move the marine in the fog.

I think it was Clokr that did a preserve minimap ping trigger and the minimap updated. Ask him for it.
