I was thinking about making a map where you have critters as horses and they just run around the track.

The players would just bet on it and see who could make the most money.
There would be an randomly generated odds system and that would affect how the critters would move.

There could be like 8 different computer player critters racing at once if you use like players 5-8 and 9-12. If 9-12 doesn't work out well for some reason you can have like players 5-8 only or 3-8.

lol I don't really see how this would be addicting

maybe zerglings would be better... cause critters are slow as hell

Well real horse racing is addictive smile.gif

And yea zerglings would be better.

I need ideas for how to make one zergling "faster" than another or like have a way so it has a better chance of winning and make it realistic.

I was thinking have triggers to order the zerglings to move and then at different intervals have them stop for a short time and go again. Odds would determine how long and how often they stop.

Then I need a system for a realtime leaderboard to show who is in which place and how to check for that.

4 computer players. 4 zerglings. 4 set paths for them to follow. A set of randomized triggers that will create a zergling under them to slow them down temporarily then remove it speeding them up.

Sounds like a map! Just implement betting and you're done!

I would like to see people being the horses, and they have to do some task to get the critter to move forward. Sort of like bound at the bottom or something, when you die then your horse slows down. But as long as your in the bound game your horse moves fast. Or something.

No this map won't require much action on the players part. You will just bet and watch. Fun biggrin.gif

And if people were to control the lings I wouldn't have them bound smile.gif

Could someone post a detailed explanation of exactly how bets and odds work in horse races? Like different ways you can bet, what you can bet on, and how to set up odds.

I only have very vague memories of going to the Meadowlands with my dad a couple times in the past.

yeah I don't really want to control a horse. Just relax, have fun, and bet.

If you could get this done, that'd be great. But when does the game end?

Just make sure its uberated so people dont get bored... gl!

You could add observers or something that roam around with locations that slow them down. or just randomly place locations to slow them down or speed them up.

This would be a fun map if you could get it to be slowed down and stuff...

For bets make so
- Each ling is a different color.
- You start with like 10 minerals and everyone can bet for/against a color.
- If the color you bet wins, you get money/money people bet against (or whatever)

I don't know how bets work, but that is an idea...

Each horse in a race has odds against it that it will win, the ones with higher odds (8:1 as opposed to 2:1) give you more money if you win. Exactly how many times greater the odd is. (if you bet $1 on a 10:1 you get $10 back) If you lose the house just takes your money. I don't know if thats how it works everywhere but thats the just of it where I've seen it.
That is the most basic way to bet. Another way I've seen is making your own bets with other betters. But that would be harder to implement into a game.

Give the horses names! w00t.gif

I probably will, since the map won't have "as much" anyway I can jazz it up by making it detailed and have randomized names, odds, etc.

Those Badlands Blends by Tux would be very nice in making the terrain.

Name devouring One and Zergling with the same name.

Start All Horses At the start with either a devouring one(fast horse) or ling(slow horse)

Then At at Random Points Use remove units and create units to switch between the two lings and then run the order units trigger again.

This would look fine if u had a hyper trigger running I think.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Do-0dan on 2005-04-27 at 13:20:37
there was already a racing game with animals
but i think it was 4 or 3 different units with same speed and acceleration time
anyways, all 4/3 of them started at the same time but when they got further into the track, there were lots of random critters there moving around so if one racing unit bumped into a critter, they slowed down

i want to race and be betted for biggrin.gif u should make 4 or 3 horses racing that are controlled by 3/4 human players and 4/5 human players betting

a way to make them race is by making a toss observer follow the horse and have the sucking trigger(in tutorial) keep moving horse towards observer so you would have to keep clicking forward to actually get somewhere
hyper trigger is not advised for this

Sounds cool, I've seen racing/betting maps before but they all involved human races... computers sounds like more fun. I'd suggest looking at some of the other gambling maps around for ideas on betting though most follow a simple format where you make twice what you bet if your bet wins. Probably should set a cash goal for winning so it doesn't drag on forever... maybe first person to 10,000 or 5,000 credits(minerals) or something wins.

u could have random explosions on the course and if they get hit with one they stop for like 5 seconds

cloaked dts, if they hit a dt the stop temporarily

and turrets to slay the horses. I know this doesn't happen usually in real life.

horse racing eh?? e z. Heres the deal. Ill make one for you to use as an example. BUT you cant steal my idea. Other words. Give me credit when credit is due!!! w00t.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MapUnprotector on 2005-05-09 at 21:40:11
How about you make your own map however you want and if I want to make one I'll make it however I want. I don't really need examples of how to make it.

Hey, how Ironic, I was thinking of something like this for w3, since you can actually have real lookin' horses and the such. But for sc, I would make like a bike race, or car race w/siege tanks or somethin'. Or the hoarses could be ultralisks, but they're too big. Goons?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MapUnprotector on 2005-05-09 at 23:29:34
Lol thats interesting, Goon races. But yea I don't think I would call it horse racing, probably base it upon some kind of unit. Like bike racing vultures, or like zergling races and w/e.

I'm not sure if I said it before
can you bet?
