Staredit Network -> Games -> Critical Error... too many maps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by -BW-Map_God on 2005-04-15 at 18:23:53
I get this error now when trying to load some maps I recently downloaded from starcraft.org... apparently my starcraft has seen enough maps?? Just wondered if anyone knows how to fix that... I still got some maps to sort/categorize before I reformat... but if I can't checkout the ones in SC that are protected I can't sort/categorize/delete them so... :-(. I checked and couldn't find the directory listed above that it said it couldn't find enough storage space to process the command from. Maps I had previously loaded already still work fine... just seems to have the error every new map I look at(not that I have tested them all yet).

Theories? Comments? Welcome smile.gif .

Its impossible that Starcraft has seen to many maps... Did you even consider on re-installing starcraft to see if it works then?

Try deleting all of the money maps, smile.gif... Or just delete the ones that have no meaning, If you have a big download folder, Then I don't suggest you go through each game, And see wich one you want... Just delete the ones that sound stupid.

no no see you keep the money maps and del everthing else and just start out fresh tongue.gif

Yea you could do that, Or just delete evrey thing, And join evrey single game, To collect all the maps out there.

Then ud be considered a n00b.

Just scroll down your screen and look for really dumb names like-
MEGA MAN BOUND 23.12!!!
Do you really need that? no.

Hey! I made a bound with that name But it was version 2.0.0... But who cares, It sucked anyway.. Just delete them all and start from scratch.

oh oh wait wait just del all your bounds then you should be good to go biggrin.gif becouse most of your maps are probally bounds anyways so just do that smile.gif

Actually,
I have 1 bound map -.-
Anyways,
Try putting those maps in a diff folder?

I have three folders for maps, the ones I download in games, the one I get from the net, and favorites.

OR

You could just zip them send them to a friend, then reformat and get them back?

Well,
Anyways.

Good Luck.

lol... first off I don't have a single money map... I delete all those crappy maps and I do clean out crappy maps once a month. I was in the process of doing so when I encountered this problem.

I join games to play them and if the map doesn't suck I keep it... occasionally I trade maps with people, usually just old/good rare rpgs and sometimes I get maps off websites (like this one and starcraft.org though SC.Org is a serious waste of time, not even 1/3rd of the maps on it are worth keeping). All my maps are categorized (or in the process of being) in neat folders :-).

EDIT: I found a way around the problem... I moved the maps to a different map folder and now magically the error doesn't appear... unless of course I try to load a folder with over 1k maps in it (my unsorted folder) but if I drag maps out of there in sets of 50/100 I can view them and properly categorize them.

So yea, problem solved... yet another wierd quirk of Starcraft... I intend to find out exactly how many map files you can put in a folder soon before getting that error... I'm curious as to the exact max. Currently all I can say on the subject is it is below 1,000 and above 544.

I myself trade maps... The only maps I trade are Sexy Pics... Just kidding happy.gif... But I do trade good old maps, Like the first maps ever made, Like the first bound, Not done with square terrain.

That's another set of maps I can proudly say I don't have any of and don't plan to get any of. Those maps and mucho cash maps ruin battle.net not to mention probably expose alot of little kids to things they shouldn't be seeing.

C:\src\Starcraft\SWAR\lang\maphdr.cpp

WTF? *.cpp is a C++ source code extention. Um dude, just take all of your maps and copy into a different folder. Then delete the old folder they were in and recopy them back to the original location.
