MapDori.com

A new Korean Melee Map making community.
They are the elite of the Korean Map Making community. I thought it best to introduce them to SEN.

I can except some awsome synergism between our two sites.
The language barrier will of course hinder this, but at the same time it keeps both sites isolated when it comes to site competition.
You will find many SEN works and ideas at their site, and at the same time you will find some of their ideas here too.

A clear example of shared concepts:
Shared Concepts

And this is what I mean by "elite"
Elite Articles

Articles about Pro-Maps and Maps only. You will find the article and a picture of each map in most articles. Most of them are quality posts.
The Expert Articles

It is a pity its all in Korean. Fortunately map makers have one common language:
Show me the Map!

It is already rumored that three of their maps are being beta-tested for WCG 2005.
You can check them and download them at
Pgtour.net News

Now the question is, can we do better? Oh well, we can always hope. One thing for sure many of the creative ideas in map making originate outside Korean and then after get perfect there. As for the pure map making techniques like the special ramp see in the above link - most of those originate from SEN map makers

The question should be, can we ever beat the Koreans at SC fanatacism?

The answer: Nope.

Those melee maps there look godly!!

Thats not the only korean mapping site out there. Theres also http://www.mapside.net

(I only know that they're linking to files because they're generating referer logs).

I'm glad to see that languages cannot stop the spread of new concepts.

WOW, I'm famous even between pro gamers:

They are unfortunately locked, so it is impossible to open them in the campaign editor unless you use a hex editor to edit the map code (just ask Clokr at Staredit.net and he will open it for you if you are truly interested).

I'm just wondering where did they get that idea from. Maybe from unproedit? tongue.gif

Why the censored.gif do we care about the korean map making team elite. We are elite UMS in the US. In Korea they can be elite Melee. We don't need to mix. Unless they plan to make UMS there is no real challenge and we should remain unaffiliated with them.

Some of us in the United States like a thinking game every once in a while too. I prefer UMS as well, but still like to melee often. You should respect the best regardless, and not boast of yourself as part of the "best ums" when you haven't contributed to the community like other members here.

Regardless, Entropy is much more interested in melee, which is why he made this post about it.

I noticed that in multiple korean maps extended terrain was used. No backwards ramps yet, but still that is quite a jump that they have learned how to use programs like SF and SCMDraft. I wonder which editor Rose.Of.Dream prefers.... hmm...

In a interview, Rose.Of.Dream says he uses the editor that came with SC. pinch.gif

That's pretty cool.

And do you mean they take some of our maps and post them there? Cause that would be cool but at the same time stealing? tongue.gif

All thats quite possalbe without SCM draft 2 or starforge. I was doing "extended terrain" with GUedit and SCMdraft 1

Do they have a special korrean editor? Do they use Starforge and or SCMDraft who knows for sure?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Carlsagan43 on 2005-04-17 at 03:17:43
better yet, who cares for sure? WHy the hell is this forum sagging down to the melee maps of other countries for news? How can you even be elite in making melee? You just describing an area where a small battle is to occur. In UMS, however, you can far surpass anything made in melee. Eventually there isn't anyhting more you can do with melee. UMS will keep going.

As much as i agree with your carl, i don't.

Yes I feel making melee maps requires no where near the skills it does to make a good UMS map but that doesn't mean we should ignore them or look down on them. This is a mapmaking site not just a UMS mapmaking site so it very well deserves to be in the news. If you don't like it you can just look somewhere else.

The eliteness in Melee mapmaking relies almost solely on creativity in my opinion. and the ability to make a visually appealing map. Of course we can have all the melee fans talk about how differant types of maps allow for differant stadagys of game play and create differant styles of games all together but thats not my zone.

Try being a little more open towards other peoples interest and don't scold them for being differant than yourself. I don't know entropy very well but i'm almost positive if he spent even half the time on UMS maps as most of us has he would be one of the best UMS mapmakers here.

Actually I know they do have one editor thats just like Starfroge/SCMDraft 2 ... if I could find the map I could tell you which editor that is.

We can't just give up just like that. We should make some Melee maps that are better. Sure we are good at UMS but, lets be good at Melee as well too. Think about it. Us elite at making UMS and Melee games.

Sckor if you would that would be great, but to keep things simple for you could you just translate the description of the twilight map with the huge bridge? I want to see if he mentions anything about it.

The name of the map is: "Paranoid Android_Beta"
