One of my friends has a map they're making, and whenever the game starts, you get a black screen which cannot be gotten out of. It doesn't completely crash, just a black screen of death. I know there's a specific way to do it, as there was a clan mass producing this type of map a while back, but I don't have any experience with them myself, and found no information on it in the tutorials. Any information on what makes this happen and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

It's basically a crash.

Some things crash SC differently than other things do.

Well, There are sever ways to do it... The way I like to do it is to fillup, One 1x1 square terrain, With 500 hydralisks, It may work, And it may not... It worked several times for me.

My favorite was to crash people in the briefing, which I played with a while back after playing Hello Desktop, if anyone can remember that. biggrin.gif

You do know you need an ending tag if oyu're using tags. such as or

I'd think oyu're spamming for minerals even though we won't have them in awhile. Because you've been doing this all over and you still haven't caught it. In your signiture and in all your posts.

but in the ending tag, you don't need to put , just the tag which is

When'd this turn into an HTML lesson? Just view the source of a random page sheesh.

When Starcraft crashes, you get sent back to the desktop. Ergo, what Bolt said.

Oh, I had a friend of mine make an extremely evil crash map. I don't know exactly how he did it, but it was in a corrupted version of his map, "The Nuclear Pit".

As soon as you would enter the game, it was a black screen of death like Azrael's description, BUT if you tried to exit it (via alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del), it didn't work! Muwahahahahahah! Fortunately for me, my computer happens to have a loophole from this evil worse black screen. Most computers when you push the button directly on the computer, it moves it to shutdown screen, but you can't do a shutdown screen because you would have to end the program, which is well, currently not possible. BUT, on MY computer, when you push the button, it goes into standby mode. After I start the computer back up from standby mode, i can click the broodwar tab and stop the program. Yay! w00t.gif

But anyways, somehow this thread turned from a problem-helper to SC-crash memoirs, which is not exactly a bad thing. wink.gif

It's not HTML. Also, what is hello desktop? Another name for crashing?

Hello Desktop is a game that crashes SC in the briefing. You end up staring at the desktop. Hence "Hello Desktop".

I love ruining what I call 'crasher maps' by running in and saying: "THIS MAP CRASHES!! LEAVE WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!" I stick around till they ban me, and half the time, no one's smart enough to listen to ol' LV.
Oh, and Mr.Kirbycode774, it's not a loophole, you can change the settings of what your power button does. You can change it to ShutDown or Standby.

And for those of you who're wondering how to do that, go into the Control Panel, then go to Power Options. It's in there, so ha!

how did this topic go on for so long.. when it was already resovled?..

I do agree, that if you cant do anything but close out of the black screen, it basically is a crash. But has your friend searched the map for invalid units/sprites? if so any missing sounds invalid doodads. Turn the map inside out, the slightest thing can cause a crash. Everything has to be perfect.
