Well you see im making a FFT map, Final Fantasy Tactics if you dont know... but im having trouble coming up with a strategic battle system. Can you help me?

Yeah, let me make your map for you.
Sorry, seeking generic battle system trigger help annoys the crap out of me
No no no, i didnt want u to make it for me, just give me sum triggers to get me started with it...

bah.. forget it ill make my own battle system...

I don't want to go off into a rant and i should proboly just ignore this thread and bitch about it to myself, but i'm too tired and stuborn.
There are TONS of ways to do a battle system, it annoys the crap out of me when people just ask "how do I trigger a rpg battle system. There is at LEAST a dozen differant systems you could come up with before even thinking about triggers. And each one of those could be triggered in several very differant ways.
So when you come up here with a very generic question "how do you do a battle system" then the person who answers you MUST make many of the decisions that should be yours, for you. Not just methods of triggering but actual differances that effect game play. Then on top of that after someone submits there special battle system triggers, they have created another child of ignorance. Yet another person trapped into one track thinking leading them to the same conclusion every time.
If anything this should be an 'idea' thread first. Like "this is my rpg ... what should my battle system be like". Then people can debate the pros and cons of differant ideas. Lastly if you have trouble making your very well planned out battlesystem then you can come for help with specific questions or help fixing the bugs.
Lastly don't let me get you down, the last thing I want to do is making someone throw up there hands and quit.
Lol Bolt, you crack me up sometimes. He specified for a Final Fantasy Tactics battle system, which if you've played or not, is using a turn-based grid system. I remember someone making this, and he had a very good system, but I'm not sure how he made it. He had the movement system and attacking system down. >_<
I'm not familar with grid systems as much as other people, so I can't help you. >_>
Thats a very complicated system. Someone just starting to map, or even someone who's been maping for a while would have a great deal of trouble understanding and pulling that off.
Im thinking that there is a good battle system in Experemental Maps...
Look throught it...

Heh, yeah. Bolt is funny when he's serious. And, the map u were talkin about is Cheeze's (I think) Final Fantasy Tactics. I think it's protected, but you can get an idea on what it could be like. Also, ask him if you can view the unprotected one...
Good ol' bolt to the rescue... not!
I am currently making a FFT styled map, blueguardian_rpg.
It depends on the type of system you are using.
Currently im pretty much done with my concept. All thats left is filling in the triggers.
Send your map my way, I might be able to prevent some common mishaps that occur.
(Man, my posts sound so random... each line doesn't flow with the next one).
I believe this is to complex for you Black-Mage, so give up.
due fact you would have add speed factors for every unit as well turn based. Spells take one turn to power up even two. Then you have let people change job classes and so on along with other stuff. You'll need work out DMG | Speed | Armor | HP for classes, as well for enemies. This can be simple progress if you have planned out, by your thread you got no clue what system you want or how your doing it so dont even waste-time. sigh.
Well not exactly,
If you use the dropship method, as well as having each player in a set interval (player 1 goes, then player 2...etc.), and having each player in a SET class. You could create something simplistic and easy.
The map that was posted in this topic by a member, is infact an easy semi-simplistic version. Should he read tutorials on that system, he could easily set up a similar system.
mage, this is a pretty hard thing to do
sry, but let it go for now..
maybe when ur bettr
but i shouldnt be talking
bc im still only a newbie
Moogle you forgot things such as: Magical Attack, Magical Defence, Evade, Attacking triggers and moving triggers(hard enough on their own), skill usage, magic turn casting, charging, AT TURNS, and of course Weapons and equipment.
Making a large system like this is defenitely out of the question if you have no trigger knowledge, you trying to do a FFT map is basically out of the question. Try doing your own map ideas first, just to get acquianted with trigger systems u can use.
Red2Blue i would like to see the map you're working on once it's worth seeing, an advanced battle system would be most intruiging

Final Word: It's no offence how anyone is addressing you black mage, people just already see that you're in over your head. Start smaller my young map maker.
