Of all the years FF has been around... has it really changed THAT much? aren't people playing the same game in FFX as they did in FF7? As much as I hate to admit it, all the Final Fantasies feel like the same game. Now, sure, that's okay for a short series, maybe 3... but ten of the eleven Final Fantasies out have yet to really break the mold. Sure, you have different worlds, stories, etc, but those take justification for repetitive concepts. I'm going to play the Xenosaga game series to the end, simply because that's how to get the whole story. But Final Fantasy is never the same story, so they jsut seem a waste of time. What do I think needs to happen to FF? Do something creative with it, or wrap all the stories together, then let it die peacefully. Well, IMO.
Hmm.
They even have the same battle victory music(for most of them) and usualy similar battle music.
If they transitioned into a real-time battle system or even a hybrid like Tales of Symphonia, I might consider buying it.
Ever wondered why the Final Fantasy series got that far?
They don't have the same storyline. It doesn't have to END somewhere. And if there's something I noticed in FF games, it's that they're different each times. You can't really have a totally new concept each game they make... It's an RPG. Attacks. Items. Spells. Turn-based. You're not playing a RPG if you don't have these...

It's lucky that Square Enix was able to release more at least. The first FF was supposed to be it's final game, hence the name "Final Fantasy". And they tried to change the battle system somewhat in X-2. Damn it took some while to get used to, but at least theres some change, and XI went online. So they're progressively changing Final Fantasy somewhat.
Oh, those are the basic rpg features that are usualy in a battle, true, but in almost every Final Fantasy, they use that Time-bar Battle System.
Tactics Ogre:
Isometrical Turn-based Strategy Game
It was still an Rpg
Legend of Legaia:
Summons, items, Mana, Attack Mana, and a player-decided attack-based battle system
Final Fantasy:
Summons Items Mana, as you said, and a time-bar based battle system
Many Rpgs:
A simple turn-based attack system
Secret of Mana(or something):
A real-time top-down explore battle system
What do they all have in different?
Battle system.
All the Final Fantasies do have the main Battle System, though.

I'm so sorry that Final Fantasy isn't on X-Box.
I never quite understood how a final fantasy could have gone on for so long. I mean it is a FINAL fantasy....
Anyways I've never really played that much of them but I think they should stop with al the finall fantasy games...
(At first I though you meant, tired about Firefox)
It's being less of an epic release, and more of a next episode sort of thing. I say this because as the first poster said, each different title, while the stories, graphics, and characters may change, the heart of the game, the battle system, has not received a grand revolution, like the jump from Resident Evil 3 to Resident Evil 4.
By different concept... I meant by story. All the FF games have been "save the world". It's a bit bland. There's never huge amounts of depth to them either. Ugh, I guess my expectations are too high after reading The Sandman.
Arnt all RPG's about saving the world?
meh... Lets see you make over 12 same titled games and see what happens. Well, FFX and FFX-2 changed a crap load to me in the gameplay. Fine to me. But im not a FF fantatic with every single game...
but, i'll keep going as long as they up it.

For the most part, dpeending on how you define 'RPG'.
I mean, look at Animal Crossing.
animal crossing isnt an RPG. Its not a role playing game. You do whatever u want. like the Sims, you have no role. therefore turning it into a PG...

But seriously, its not an RPG.
Um... so, taking the role of a person makes it... not an RPG? The Sims is technically moreso an RPG then Final Fantasy. Why? Because in Final Fantasy, most of the choices are made for you. But in the Sims, you choose, you perform the role of your character. You get a job, you choice what to do... etc. That's certainly playing a role. Then again... that makes GTA an RPG. RPG is a vague genre that needs renaming.
thinking that way makes every game an RPG. An RPG is when u take the role of a chracter(s) and do A CERTAIN ROLE. not any ole' role like the Sims. You do something certain. You go by your role. Your destiny. (teehee)
meh
And your role is as an average newcoming citizen in whatever the crap the town or village or whatever it is in Animal Crossing is.
If I'm taking the role of the guy that's saving the world, that means I pretty much am the person saving the world.
So why can't I choose what to do?
Because I'm not taking that role, I'm just telling him how to fight because he and all his friends are idiots. That, and tell him where to go since they're all blind.
I can't say too much about Final Fantasy, I've never been a fan of the games. I've always found them repetitive and boring.
The storylines seem to be quite amazing though, so they deserve credit for their creativity.
no EZ. You dont have a role in Animal Corssing. NO ROLE! You can do whatever you want, no missionish role.
FF you have a role, you follow it, something like that. RPG is a very bad name for a genre. It confuses people who take things literally. You dont have a role in Animal Crossing.
BUT O WAIT I FORGOT!! I forgot that in Animal Crossing you take the role of Jel'redun and make him travel thru the Tel'dahan forest. Then he meetssome princess and saves her life and then defeats the giant monster that the princess told him about. the end. [/sarcasm]
