Notes:

+ The name is usually the last thing on my mind when im designing a map
+ This map has been play tested and it seems that the general conception is that it is biased towards terran.
+ My friends and I suck though, so we aren't the be all and end all of balance discussion.
+ Protoss buildings look really cool when morphing in over snow

Issues:

+ The map is fairly poor, thanks partly due to the fact that half of it is made up of the ice tile. This may or may not be changed depending on how my test runs on the map go.
+ The map is sort of tighter on the left side than on the right.
+ The upper mid and lower mid ramps come very close to the sides of the main, creating an undesirable bottle neck effect.

unless you are playing 2v2 left vs right, this map will be unbalanced. on the natural expansions, it is too easy to attack the gas mines. make the starting locations all grass, people don't like seeing bright snow in their main base.

fix your "issues", make is so that all bases have a similair path and distance base to base, and it shoudl be a good map.

Ok, this isnt as bad as you make it seem. With Lots of work, you can make it much better.

The mains have the same opportunities, but if you want it more balanced, then you should put the same thing you put through the middle vertically, but put it horizontally.
Also, there seems to be a major lack of expansions and diversity. The map is missing quite a bit of things.

Also, the mineral placement is a bit spread out, you dont want it too much like that. I guess i could let this slide, but I would rather you made a more efficient pattern.

If snow tileset's grey is too bright you should really consider turning down your monitor's brightness, because if you ever visit a white page like google, your retina will ignite.

I can't put the line of land horizontal, because of the positioning of the expansions. If I were to change the expansion locations, then the ramp direction would screw up the design.

What do you mean by diversity? With a few exceptions such as alchemist, there are no diverse maps.

Mineral placement is another thing I really don't look at until i think ive finished with the map design. Until then, i put together anything that will mine somewhat effeciently and mirror it to every base/expansion and so on, so i can test the map.


Name suggestions are still welcome from anyone that has them. Have a favourite song? Tell me its name and I'll consider it. As long as it sounds good, i don't care if it has nothing to do with anything about my map.

It's okay, But teal has a slightly bigger base, And purples base is kinda dented in...

Try making the bases look the same, So no one can say anything about there base being smaller/bigger.

I meant in terrain types. All you used for most of the map is ice.

And if you dont want to give this map lots more work it wont be as good as it could. Just like I said earlier,

i wasnt trying to avoid working on the map, at the time i thought that it would be difficult to change the central land thing. After a bit of thought, I rearranged the map a bit and came up with this:

Yeah, its just a rough draft at the moment, but I want to get some opinions before I explore the idea completely

Well... i dont like the second one at all, the first one however, i think it's pretty good except for some minor flaws... in my opinion i would like the first one more if u turned that middle part into water or an unaccessable area considering there is still ways to get to the other bases... the second one however sucks compared to the first

Why is the first so much better than the second?

The middle path is needed, in my opinion as the other paths coincide with the mains they connect, and it also provides additional movement capabilities for armies, for flanking and just moving your stuff around. Plus, the other two paths are connected to expansions.

Think of it as the neutral path that doesn't belong to anyone.
