Why is there a limit of 250 sprite/doodads in SC? I thought it genereated them in real time
That limit only exists in Staredit. It's to prevent lag, and after a certain amount of sprites are placed in game it bugs up. So, by keeping a low amount of doodad sprite, it'll have plenty of space for in game ones.
Wrong. SC has a limit and it won't load more than one limit of the map. I'm not sure what the limit is but it might be 1024.

Might want to check your tutorials

Actually legacy, it needs a tad bit of updating.
1700 is for units only. The sprite limit is as of yet unknown and much greater than 1700. The 1700 unit limit and sprite limit I'm talking about is for the actual game, not Staredit. The Staredit unit limit is 1650, so you might want to put
Game unit limit: 1700
Staredit unit limit: 1650
Staredit sprite limit: 1024 (I think?)
Min Number Value(Wait, set deaths #, set mineral amount, etc.): -2147483648
Max Number Value: 2147483647
