I've been thinking about setting up some of my own forums, just kinda be fun. I found a site that offers a bunch of different options for that and I don't know much about them.

Different choices of database types:
  • MySQL 3.x
  • MySQL 4.x
  • PostgreSQL 7.x
  • MS SQL Server 7/2000
  • MS Access [ ODBC ]
  • MS SQL Server [ ODBC ]
Database stuff (really no clue here, as to where to find this kind of thing, or what I need it for...):
  • Database Server Hostname / DSN:
  • Your Database Name:
  • Database Username:
  • Database Password:
  • Prefix for tables in database:
Misc Admin stuff (I understand most of this part, except server ports etc...):
  • Admin Email Address:
  • Domain Name:
  • Server Port:
  • Script path:
  • Administrator Username:
  • Administrator Password:
The site also says "Please note that the database you install into should already exist. If you are installing to a database that uses ODBC, e.g. MS Access you should first create a DSN for it before proceeding." Once again, no idea...

Does you host provide a mySQL db?

That's information you either set yourself or have to get from your host. We can't really help you. Check with your admin for database information and the phpBB FAQ.

As of now, I don't have a host... I pretty much am the admin, I was just looking for more info on things like where to get a host etc...
