I'm making a new map called D-Day Invasion (pretty self explanatory). any suggestions/advice?
It's pretty much Americans (Protoss pinch.gif ) sieging Germans (Terrans). I'll show screen shots maybe later.
(This is like the 8th map that I'm working on. But when Shrimpy finishes testing SEN commandos, at least that will be done!)

I'd play it the other way around. It would be fun having hordes of marines die on the entrance to some enforced bunkers or something.

You could make very effective usage of Arbiters there...

But I do like the idea of having the siege tanks on defense. Maybe make a trigger to give a bunch of them to the Protoss AI...

Why is it that people want to make these maps? I mean, their are already thirty! Well, My advise is to attack it from the front! Also, you have all three races, use them all! I think it would be fun to see "Boats" (Which can be anything from a dropship to a whatever you can think of) get blown out of the sky, that would make this hard! Also, make the cliffs hard to climb or something! Like a god damn maze that will make people mad! People need chalenges like these!~ (Damn lazy people)

You could use that sucking trigger set that was on one of Yoshi's tutorials... Pull them back toward the shore or wherever...

That is a good idea! I mean, it will make the game harder, the only down side is that when you play, instead of getting pissed off at how many enemies there are, a person will get pissed off with how long it will take them to get through the level! I mean, it could be ezer! I preffer a good old maze, with guys firing at you of course!

Hmm maybe just lots of stuff blocking the vision for the atatckers and still giving the defenders full vision over the shore.

You can never have to many war maps, because the ones that are out get played so much they get old and its always nice to have new terrain and obsticals to overcome, but if anything play Normandy Invasion and learn from it, its a good example. An RPG/War map hybrid is a good way to go.

You could use the Arbiters for that. Make some trigger to cloak an Arbiter, that would be interesting...

As said before, D-day has been done many times before, I have about 3 versions dled right now. One of them I really love but wouldn't hurt a little update.

Just make sure you add your own unique things into it and make it different from the rest of the maps out there, new terrain, new heros, new attack methods, and new effects... if you pull it off it will be the next big thing smile.gif

Maybe you could add an air strike trigger (for a price) and have several dropships go around dropping "atomic bombs" (any unit with kill trigger) on the enemy

LoL well maybe not atomic bombs... i dont think in any war any country would just drop atomic bombs all over the place... maybe in some futuristic war on a distant planet that we dont care about yes then maybe... but not in real time today.

I know, make sure it is a free exploration map! I mean, these maps really just suck if people are directed all the time! Like a god damn MAZE, but there is only one way! Well, put in beautiful arrows or something to direct newbs, but let the pros explore! Also, Make it friggin hard! It would be fun, also, if your created like a weapon changing system! You know, change from one gun to another or something!

rifle.gif I can't find the best in people, because they always drop dead! rifle.gif

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Aster on 2004-03-10 at 07:46:52
Yeah, but it would also be pretty one-sided...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Rayne on 2004-03-10 at 08:14:18
And a pretty pointless war... its better when a map is realistic.. if they were just dropped A-bombs all over the place.. the war would be over instantly.. lol

Yeah there was. You don't hear about them as much, but there were a lot... They cleared some of the heavier nests and did most of the scouting beforehand. That was the only way that the Allies survived the initial invasion...

hmm maybe your right... i woudlnt call myself an expert on the subject =). anyway it would look cool with lots of allied soldiers being slaughtered all the time while they were attacking slowly pushing forward.

Have them re-spawn or something at the edge of the map (maybe in boats/dropships or something)

Just so there is a nearly unlimited supply of guys. You could make it so the points system was based on how quickly the mission was beat, not the number of men killed...
