I used the Normal compression method in PROEdit and got the map REVERTED back to its first save... I was going to just restart the project, until I checked the map size and wondered... is it possible that there're still salvageable stuff in here?

I checked the map, there was nothing in it. It's just a normal map that appears to be created with Staredit, one strip of terrain change at the bottom, and two Start Locations. There is nothing "hidden" in the chk(I checked it) if that's what you wanted to know.

This sounds like a bad case of "oops, wrong map".

The file size made me think that there might be stuff in it.

I created a blank map and saved it, and it turns out that 256x256 just takes up a whole lot of space to begin with.

Now I have to start over for sure. D'oh!

I think ProEdit 1.4.1 is better than the others for a reason. tongue.gif

What does that have to do with anything?

Well, look at it this way: No one's ever going to steal that map wink.gif. It's the ultimate form of protection!

Nobody can play it either. sad.gif

Why didnt you make a copy? You never ever protect your map without copying it! What happens if you accidentaly made a mistake? What if u wanna make an update?

The problem was that I didn't protect it. I used the Normal Compression combo on it.

So my question is, how did removing unused strings revert the map?

I posted the right map.

It doesn't do that, that's the problem. You probably left PROEdit open with the old version and saved over the new one... either that or you loaded a blank/different map, and saved over the real one.

Well there's no way it can "revert" a map. Did you actually have terrain in it, or was it that strip at the bottom only? Because there's no possible way for it to come up with "new" terrain.

I did have terrain. Covered. Over the whole map! cry.gif

Do you mean that I opened the map with PROEdit, spent a couple of hours working on terrains, then saved over the new map with the already opened one? I know I didn't do that, the thing took a few DAYS, through which my computer went through several restarts (I shut my computer off at night).

I'm going to assume that I loaded a different map. Yeah, that's probably what happened, because I have a WoS3.scx that looks the exact same. Ok, that's definitely what happened. biggrin.gif crazy.gif blushing.gif sad.gif

Oh well, I'll just make it better than it was. Thanks everyone for proving I'm a blundering n00b. cool1.gif
