Well, life isnt fair sometimes.
O, you pwnd. That was awesome. You just said what ive wanted to sayt for awhile. Better. Nice job man...
That's why we have drugs.
Of course life isn't fair. What other purpose to it is there if it isn't to try and make it fair, though?
Don't answer that. It's a rhetorical question to state my opinion. Let's stay on topic.
The idiots just keep ignoring it. Hate hate hate!!!
Battle.net. is mostly composed of little kids who want to play something fast, simple, yet fun. I don't think we'll be able to change that unless it costs money, which I doubt is going to happen aytime soon.
But they could at least hall of fame some good maps. Really.
I mean, someone has a log from their bot of me making fun of the little retards who play DBZ V YUGIOH!!!!!!!
But anyway, hall of fame em, make em. o jesus so much to do.
Tis true how blizzard ignores the map making and UMS communities like they don't exist. They barely reply to my emails if I send any. They're more in tuned with the melee communities, and appear to favour them more.
I personally think the UMS community has proven itself extremely well with the newest concepts that came out, but blizzard continues to chose to seperate itself from the UMS portion, so theres not much I can do.
Hey, I tried.
All they think about is the "FAIRLY ODDPARENTS!!!!" But they completely ignore the greantness of some of the UMS communtity. ah... look at uberna....
If there was a way to make that fact backfire on them, I wonder if it might sway their opinion...
I can understand why blizzard doesn't care about UMS but only Melee.
Because Starcraft was build around melee. That's what the game truly was about. THey made UMS just to please some of those people who get sick of meleeing 24/7. I didn't think they'd expect such a huge community to spawn out of it.
What ticks me off even more, is how selective they are in what sites they choose to work with. I mainly compare sites with blizzard support with my own by Alexa ranking. There is one as low as 1,000,000th place that blizzard supports. Ours is 500,000 (we used to be about 430,000, but due to the fact that I haven't been updating my site as often, plus the loss of some affiliates, resulted in a slight drop in traffic, which I could use due to bandwidth consumtion).
The fact is, blizzard bases websites not upon reputation, traffic, features, or whatever. They base it more upon age. If you've been in the communtiy a long time, regardless if you're actually updating anymore, they will pretend you don't exist. Eh, oh well. I made SEN mostly for learning. Other gaming companies, like Bungie, actually support, news post and EVEN PLAY WITH the supporting community sites.
Maybe they're embarrased by how much they're old UMS maps sucked compared to some of the stuff that's come out since then...
I'm planning a little something that should soon shake things up a bit, though.

Or, they could hate the 3rd party tools we now use.
Or, maybe they're just angry at the map makers who make fun of them by using every possible glitch in Starcraft into something useful.
Maybe they're like: "Ok, if they're sooooo good with getting everything they want from what we already gave them, let them handle the rest alone".
[edit] Yoshi posted at the same time I did... faster.
Yoshi: The fastest poster in the west

When it comes right down to it, I think they really disagree with 3rd part editors. They frown on 3rd party programs on Battle.net, so I assume they feel the same way about messing with the original StarEdit.
EDIT:
Damnit! I typed up a long, four paragraph reply in that forum and it said "Forums are currently down." I clicked the back button, its all gone. Here's the summation of what I was going to say, "We map makers seem to be completely arrogant assuming we should get something for our hard work in UMS. But we do work hard and we get nothing for it excpt the occasional 'hey nice map' replies. Blizzard should go past Map of the Month and make a full-fledged map making contest."
I agree with Tux, 100%. And I think that the UMS community is one of the major reasons why SC is still alive. It's amazing though, how two completely different parts of a game struck gold and formed two communities. UMS and Melee. I really wouldn't be here at all though if it weren't for melee, that was my first love and I still enjoy playing melee.
Though the fact we have so much freedom with UMS makes it so fun to make maps and play them.
I like the complete originality of UMS, and the high replayability of Melee, UMS is good for times when you wanna try a quick new game that shows a different way to play SC, and Melee is more refined in that you can think of the same strategies and work on getting better at them, and new Melee maps also help in the replayability as well, though you can play dozens of games on one map and it wouldn't be the same.
I wish I could post at BlizzForums... (one of the many things I cannot connect to)
Anyways,
They center so much on melee, but some people (such as my self) have made/played UMS since they first got StarCraft. Sure I played Melee before I found Battle.net and StarEdit. But I was terrible at it. Then When I found UMS making, thats what I did from then on.
Melee gets all this recognition, UMS is harder to make than Melee maps. Sure you have to find strategic ways to set up the map in melee, but UMS you have to do all the triggering and stuff, and it takes
much longer. (Unless your making one o them Überly spiffed up melee maps with Extended terrain and stuff)
I say blizzard should make the Use Map settings community stand out more than it does. When ever I go on Battle.net, UMS is what everyone is playing. When I go into the melee section, I see like 10 games. Use map settings it just keeps going on.
Why recognize what is used less and easier (to make)?

I agree 100%.
Blizzard turns a deaf ear to us because we no longer have anything going for
them.If they were to make another map of the month deal, how would it benifit Blizzard? More Battle.net users? Better maps?
They don't want anything to do with us unless we give something to them. And right now, all we can really do is make maps.

They have atttention spans of 4 year olds. They just make a game and move on to their next great creation. Something bad will happen when they start too ditch WoW.
They're a corporation. That's what corporations do. Even worse that they have Vivendi sitting their fat cat asses on them.
I just don't see why it's so much pain to open up a bit and acknowledge we exist, especially if they really do plan to revisit SC on the PC in the future. It's almost insulting.
