When I use StarForge and put some black squares for like a space thing or something, and then go to SC X-tra Editor Special it screws up the terrain. Everytime when I move the terrain where the black squares where mess up the terrain. But it isnt perminate. I just would like to know why its doing this, because its really annoying.

I think you mean that you placed null in starforge?
If thats the case, null messes up other editors, as they can't properly display it, so add the null last.

I usually use a different null for the terrain so that it shows up as black on SCXE opposed to "screwed up!"

I would go with shatter's idea. Or what else you could do is this. Place the null where you want it. Then place all of your units/building/etc. After they are placed just put a different terrain where the null was. For example you could replace it with dirt if you were using the badlands terrain. then all you have to do is open it in the Xtra editor and replace the "dirt" with space of null in Xtra editor! Just make sure to keep it square. tongue.gif

The image just screws up, but the thing is still their. I use it for like space battles in like a badlands terrain or snow or somthing.... its cool!

Well it's fully a program problem, the way Staredit displays things messed up the images and stuff. The map is fine, as stated in the previous post, it only appears wrong.

And go suggest it to Heimdal in the Starforge forum below, he'll probably consider it then not do anything because he doesn't seem to care about making any changes to the program.

You love ranting on about Starforge don't you Chu? wink.gif

I'm thinking one day Heimdal might get sick of it and actually do something about his program like release the source or fix all the bugs that have killed litterally hours of maping in half a second.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Heimdal on 2005-05-23 at 14:10:21
This isn't a bug in SF. SE doesn't render terrain properly. If you want to work around this, use a black tile that isn't tile 0.

As for killing hours of mapping, have you ever thought how many hours I've put into Starforge? I'm sure it's at least as many as any single person has spent making maps.

Oh I know, but that was more voluntary. I used SF because it could place tiles a lot faster than SCMDraft1 and GUEdit and was less buggy than the two ... but it still killed hours of mapping on a couple occaisions when I either clicked at the wrong spot, or input the wrong things when making triggers.. And I also know I won't be using SF again unless another updated version comes out that fixes many bugs I'm annoyed with or has more features than SCMDraft2. Untill then, I'm going to use a program thats more reliable.

Starforge is perfectly reliable with me.

Anyways I use the black (null) tiles to the right of the Water rows. Only the top row is all messed up in SCXE.
(This is also the reason I suggested a "Similar Tile Converter" for starforge, so you could convert them all to dirt or something so you can see it properly, then easily send it back)

y dont just make the black ones [null or what ever] turn into space or just make them space or something?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by www.com.au on 2005-05-24 at 01:07:39
good point..

but their is probably problems with that idea.. you think that heimdal wouldn't have thought of that already??

maybe starcraft screws up if theyrs something different in a tileset, so he had to add null so it didnt mess up..

Heimdal? back me up here pinch.gif

No offense Chu, but lay off the critism. Heim worked hard on that program, and it may not be perfect but I don't think bashing it is exactly the way to encourage him to make a new version... or even bother doing anything with it at all.

And besides, SI still hasn't added brushes or any form of useful terrain cut n' paste to his editor, as well as other functions like arrays and unit moving, so SF still has its uses.

Tux's right. They're like Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. They're ok apart, but work great together.

Only thing I know about null terrain is that SC sees it as invalid terrain or something and just displays black with no movement allowed on it.

If you look at null terrain in the platform tileset, you'll see that SC renders stars underneath it.

I didn't "add" null terrain. It's always been there.

I don't know why SE doesn't render anything when the tile ID is 0. I would suppose that it has to do with transparency for stars, but that theory doesn't hold up because other black tiles DO get rendered.

If you absolutely have to use SE/SCXE with SF, use a tile other than tile 0 or just use SF after you're completely done with SE. There's nothing I can do to make SE render that tile. A converter would help the problem though.

It is only tile 0 that does that? I thought it was that whole row... blushing.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Heimdal on 2005-05-24 at 19:54:51
It might be the whole row, I'm not really sure.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-05-24 at 20:04:13
No it's only 0. I always use 1 in my maps now just because SCXE.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by (U)Bolt_Head on 2005-05-24 at 21:00:41
Yeah cause only 0 is the null tile.
