The modding section has been a complete success so far, to my surprise actually.
Thus, we now have new categories in the downloads database for modding: Total Conversions, Minor Modifications, Incomplete / Demos and Modding Tools.
We are supplying 8mb maximum, zip files only. The space limits will likely not change while we are under a shared server, due to the space and bandwidth restrictions (if we ever go dedicated, we'll start offering a
lot more). We're sorry about this, so you'll have to likely strip your mods of music, and possibly limit the amount of sounds and speech.
Plus, a new tutorials category has also been added
here.
So, submit your mods, mod programs, and mod tutorials! Thank you everyone for making this new division of Staredit Network such a success!
Yes, thank you...

I've been waiting for something like this...love j00 Yoshi...
Jeez, modding really grew fast!
Wow... i actually never knew modding was this big! I always thought it was interesting but never thought i would actually play a starcraft mod, but i did earlier today.
why cant you upload somewhere else and post a link?
the 8mb would be a problem for the total conversions...
But i understand you dont have the bandwith but lots of TC's are over
100mb...
I suggest people upload them somewhere else (freewebs) and in the DLdata bace you can have the link.

I'd rather much not. In the past, people misunderstood it, using it improperly. Additionally, they would host files on their unreliable servers. I host 99.9% of files locally, with the exception of SCMdraft because SI requested that it wouldn't be hosted locally (and I know his server is reliable).
Thats ok. Will SEN ever have more space?
Wow, the mod forums really took off... Sadly, faster than melee.
The main problem is, IP is paying for the current server out of his own pocket. We're not paying anymore, but in the future I'm hoping I can develop a solution for this, so that you can host rather large files. It wont happen on this server though.

you should try putting in advertisments, like google ad's (they pay alot!) but mabie V5 wont take up as much space

Ads? Are you nuts? Maybe a solution will arise to this when I get a job (I'd be more than willing to shell out money for this site, and it can't be that much since I'm only living with my mother right now, so I don't have to pay for a house or anything).
8mb limit works for me, I probably won't download/upload anything over a couple MB unless I know for sure that it isn't crap.
I still don't understand everyone's problem with ads... What are you going to do, not use the site anymore if it has ads?

Mods let you add to game and pass the limit of map making, melee lets you do the same old stuff you could always do.

You could add a ad page... And evrey time a user logs in, They would have to click atleast on ad.
I have considered serving ads to those without an account. If you aren't logged in, you would see ads. I think that would be fair, so then people who visit the site frequently dont have to view ads just by registering an account, and guests who are only here a little bit get ads.
Maybe you could do it by post count? Once you have a certain amount of posts, The ad's go away.
No. You sign up for an account, it would be gone.

I think that would be a good idea, because according to those stats u posted earlier, 1904 guests visit this site for the first time every day or something like that, so i think that the ads would work great.
I should probably learn some modding because otherwise I won't know whether the tutorials work or not.
You can ask me if needed, I know a bit of modding. BSTRhino can probably answer your question too.

Its not 1904 people actually looking at the site, its the total unique hits to any element on the site, graphics, file linking, etc. We get a lot of attention for things such as this.
Good News: The Mod section of the DLDB is up.
Bad News: There are no files...yet.
Come on, people, submit your mods and mod-making tools!
Lol.
Anyways, I suprised on how fast the modding has grown, so I will learn how to mod too lol =P
Couldnt you (well, for now, since in v5...) liek give minerals if they click on certain ad links?
I dont udnerstand how your ads are gonig to work:
You just put it on top or bottom of ur page.
OR
Its per click.
But one of the online games i've played did that, for a reward of money once a day lol.

People will submit mods as they finish them. Theres no rush.
How about a section for files .. for modding?
