I don't really agree with your friends biggrin.gif
It is basicly a money map (We don't appreciate those here, and with the tight middle its't even a good one at that. You can still play it with your friends of coruse, but you will probably not find anyone here who will want to play it.

Well start a new one. It took you 15 minutes to make this, and it looks like it took less. So by starting from scratch you will save time:D

Ok sry don't want to be rude, dude. But if you want respect here, you just can't post moneymaps or maps without a single expansions.

just some basic information on melee mapmaking. The main only should have 8 mineral patches, and one vespene geyser. Also try to stay away from ashworld terrain, and there is also going to need to be expos. Those are just a few basics, you've still got a lot more to learn about melee mapmaking, but dont give up. smile.gif

^^It helps alot.

You seem like you have a good attitude, thats good. Try making expansions. Also, you need to balance terrain more, some players have smaller chokes and they can defend thier base easier.

Try looking at some pro maps, or other maps that are posted here, they will show you what a basic map looks like (a good map, not one made by blizzard)

Gee, thanks a lot guys! I've decided to follow all of you guys' ideas and not make a money map. smile.gif I've started working on it, and I'll post the map soon enough!

Hey, at least you took our suggestions and put them to good use instead of flaming us and telling us we're cocky (COUGH*fierce*COUGH)

Ok! I've done another map, following all your opinions. Only 2 players though. Here's the map layout.

It is an improvement, but you still have a long way to go;)

While the mineral placement of the mains is ok, it is horrible on most expansions, especially the one to the left of the bases. Most of the terrain still looks very plain and boring. red has more space next to his minerals than blue, blue has space behind his minerals to build turrets and stuff and red does not. Goons/hydras/marines on the cliff would stop red from harvesting, blue still could on most spots (at least with non ranged goons, not sure about range goons)

The overall idea of the map is very different from standard. So it is difficult to judge if the gameplay will be smooth and balanced. I'd say balance is not the biggest issue here, other posters may disagree. Just stick to basic design at the beginning, because nobody will really care about advanced balance issues as long as you make beginner's mistakes like the mineral placement and the overall lack of style.

Hm... so I should stick to the 'X' formation?
So, your point here is:
1) Same base area
2) Balanced number of minerals and vespene gas
3) More doodads and variety of terrain?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Panschk on 2005-06-03 at 08:36:47
yeah that would help. But I don't know about balance and gameplay...If you want to make a solid map for the beginning, just start with more standard layout. This map is so different...People might dislike that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2005-06-03 at 13:08:28
It looks like the four corner expos are ok, but there is too many minerals on the expo to the left. Also, is that four vespene geysers on the expo to the right? There probably shouldn't be more than one geyser in most cases. Also the bases are really close together, although that might not be that big of a problem. Siege tanks could just cliff all the way around and destroy the other teams base.

I like things when they're different.

But apparently, the public battle.net doesnt. WHenever i host a map other than LT, $$, or BGH/hunters, no one joins... disgust.gif

You made the main bases better, but the expansions need work. I hope you keep improving.

To balance the game, you dont want to start players right next to eachother and next to cliffs, tanks can too easily take out the otehr base.

Try another, but keep up the good attitude

Try looking at some maps from promaps.deported.net
Those are very high calibur maps, try getting some IDEAS(no making a carbon copy) to give you a general idea of what your doing.

The reason for the expansion on the left and right is for people to fight for that expansion so that can get the neccesary resource they need (example. Right for High Templars, Left for Hydras). I don't know if any of you'll agree with my idea though... hm... I'll keep trying happy.gif

Hehe, it was a nice idea, but not a good one. Try to keep expansions from 5-8 mineral patches, with an optional of ONE geyser. again, refer to Good maps here to give you an idea of what you should do.

You don't need "BW TV"...

Download VODs from tons of different broodwar sites. Teamliquid.net has some newer ones, and azeroth.ru has some older ones.
