This wasteland was once forgotten, now you must fight a timeless battle.

I've never made an island map before so I probably made some balance mistakes. I don't have much experience in playing them either so I didn't exactly know where to start. But anyways, this is what I got. The terrain I think could use some work in the interesting department. And how's the balancing? I haven't done any tests or anything yet.

I wouldn't try pure island maps like this, because toss beats zerg hands down.

http://promaps.deported.net/ has some good maps (a link to that site should be stickied, and I should talk to excal and force him to put some of the newer maps on there tongue.gif).

About your map: the positions are not fair; imagine a player starting in the bottom versus one in the midde. The middle has several closer expos. Your mineral placement isn't good, either. Check out that site for mineral-placement, as well.

After loking at that site, I'm sure your next map will be much better. I know it helped me.

I'll fix the mineral placement at the mains. I kinda went for some unusual mineral placement at the several expansions. And should I take the gas away from two of the expansions?

Since it's an island map, doesn't it not matter if some bases are closer to certain expos than others. They can't just walk to the other resources. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno. I should really spend more time on these.

And there's no need for a welcome, I'm a regular, I just don't post here much.

Distance from your main matters for trying to defend and hold expos.

Pure Island maps have some balance issues for sure. Still, sometimes I just like to play them, because these semi-island maps are mostly ground maps without a ramp (estrella, u-boat, nFZ), so real island maps really play different. Make sure there are no big lakes between the players, so that a zerg drop can't be killed as easily on transit, though.

About your map: Try to make it symmetrical or sth. You just can't have one player in the middle and two on the sides. Also make sure every player has enough space to build in mainbase, and that every player has the same chance to defend his minerals against harass (limiting those possibilities actually could be good for zerg to balance) Your overall layout seems so random to me, you can just as well restart from scratch, as you would have to change almost everything.

ADDITION:
no-gas-expos on air maps are pretty useless btw, esp considering the problems zerg have anyways. They need mass gas to be able to counter those corsairs with plague or devourors (Is that the name of the advanced zerg air unit? I don't know, I play german version^^)

This definately has some balance issues, it could work out if you placed = sized mains around the border, and an expo between each one and maybe one in mid, try rearranging them.
