Many ways have been tried to make it "appear" that units are walking on water. Aura sprites, disabled turrets, and other methods have been used.

Now I ask you, since you can mod, why not make units that go on water?

You can, I am right now working on a mod that changes creep into water for one thing. You need to do an actual terrain mod though to make the walkable water work nice as far as I know. Since to make the units be able to walk on regular terrain water, you need to set them as a flyer, which then allows them to go over other terrain and just generally act funny. By dong a terrain mod you simply change a walkable tile to a water square, and bingo, your unit can walk on water. As I'm thinking though, I think there is someway to make it so a unit can walk on regular terrain water, but I'm not sure. I think I've seen it used in some mods to make water things, (boats, ducks, etc...).

There was also an old mod called WaterCraft I think, and it was gonna be a TC that turned SC into a water based game, but it was canceled very early on.

This mod on infoceptor allows you to unload units on water. It also has a water critter (Goose). I'm not sure if it works with 1.12b, you might need to use EXEtoMPQ.

Can you make it that only some units can go into this "water"?

I kind of understand what Kirby means, like ships for example. Instead of planes and land troops, can there be units specifically only goes on water.

PS i haven't tried to mod yet.

Well, I suppose you could turn water into some special form of land or something.

I saw some screenshots of that WaterCraft mod, and DAMN did they do some amazing things.

Yah, that watercraft mod looked really cool. I'd really like to find any sort of beta/alpha that was ever released to see how they did that stuff, but so far, it's been to no avail. cry.gif

I tried making water specifc units, but I failed at it. I left off with trying to change the unit movement flags and terrain type (values in tiledit), around to turn my creep/water into flying units only, but I ended up being unsuccesful for some reason. I'll for sure to attempt do this mod again sometime in the future, once I understand more about terrain and unit movement flags.

I once made a mod where probes, drones, and SCVs could walk across water and be unloaded in water, you just check "air". But then they act funny...

Ding ding ding the $1 answer! biggrin.gif

Yeah, often i've seen people, as I've mentioned earlier, trying to produce the effect of "water". As we know from earlier patches, certain units could ignore terrain boundries and float across the water! (drone and templars)

Is anyone able to figure out what caused this glitch, and if so, would it help understand how to use water as a terrain?

The glitches with the floating drone and templar had to deal something with them becoming air units I think. That is the only way right now to make it so units can go over water, by setting them to move as air units. You can make it so that units can move on water and be able to unload on water be changing it's terrain types in tiledit. That does not allow you to have water units only though. It then just acts as another layer of regular terrain like high ground and normal ground with the edges acting as unit boundaries. I am unaware if it is possible to make water only units at this time, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if we could find some veriables to set in unit movement types and tile types in arsenal and tiledit respectively.
