Ok, I'm new here so I don't know if this has been done before, but here goes:
I was thinking, ever played FFTactics, Cronotrigger,or any other UMS map? They all start out with a good idea at first, but the big problem is once you've cleared the map, you've run out of map space.
Now I don't know: can you make changes to the map in game (such as redrawing certain portions of it)?
Even if you can't, here's my proposition (this example will use finalfantasytactics):
You have on section of the map which lets you chose your job class at the beginning of each battle. Another section represents the inn, bar, shops, ect.
Each battle, you'll have like one minute to prepare. You can buy "items" such as swords as potions (swords will be an increase in your attack power, potions can be used during battle, ect), and to chose your job class, as well as upgrade your job.
When the battle starts, you go to the main battle area. You'll have to fight a bunch of enemies, just like in the current tactics UMS games, but you gain XP like in the SPecial forces games, which will let you buy better stuff, and get better classes.
I don't know, good idea? feedback would be much appreciated.
Not too much new about it, the idea's sorta been done with Faith and desitny/FF3, although your idea does have some new points to it.
Here are a few problems you're probably going to run into if you try to make this map:
- Buying "swords" would either require that you get a new unit for each upgrade or use some weird system involving starforge im not entirly clear about
- "Special forces" type XP is just money, how would you get new classes, would you seperate JP and XP?
- Implementing a JP per hit system A-la fft would also be a challenge
But, still, its an idea with promise, as well as a big heap of hard work.
