Staredit Network -> Games -> starcraft 2 improvements
Report, edit, etc...Posted by lonely_duck on 2005-06-25 at 19:23:27
Sure everybody wants starcraft 2 to come uot and some people dont even care if the new one has new units but some people want to see new units a.k.a me, so in here give me your ideas of what kind of new units or new evolution (for you zerg fans out there) and new upgrades you would like in SC 2?

personally i would like a:

zergling evolution
new terran machine that rolls (sort of like those star wars robots)
new heavy infantry marine
and a morphing of a dark templar and a high templar

well for me since im a PROTOSS person I would like to see like more "future like" air units because the Carrier, Arbiter, Corsair, Scout, Observer, and Shuttle arn't like woa nice units if you know what im saying.

I dont care what SC2 will become. Just as long as it wont suck like Warcraft3 and be as good as SC or better.

No drastic changes should be made. Mostly just updates to what they currently have. Possibly better graphics, I don't know I'm quite fond of the sprites smile.gif A few more supporting units. Updated terrain, new tilesets, doodads such as backwards ramps, maybe more elevations.

Maybe a new race or two, but SC2 would do fine without.

I would like to see:

Terran:
Some sort of APC type unit. Like it can hold 4 marines (like a moving bunker)

A Ship type medic that repairs ships (If you have seen Star Wars 3, when Anakin and the Chanceler and Obi won Konobi or what ever were in that battle ship and were trying to land it in the begining. If you remember Republican ships flew over to them and they were like fire fighters(the ships))

A Bazooka type infantry unit.

Zerg:

A stronger, cheaper hand to hand ground unit.

Protoss:

A zealot with a plasma gun.

Maybe zerg should have another ground unit that has range. Right now it is only the hdraslisk. Terran should not have the air repair thing because that is what SCVs are for. Protoss, a small unit. All of the units they have are big, the only small one is a probe.

Yea I think a cheap and small toss unit like half of what a zealot is might be interesting... though it might take away some of the balance with the whole ideology behind what the toss is and how they are balanced with the other races.

I would like to see a graphics engine like is better than the C&C: Generals one but retain the feel of the original StarCraft.

Chris, I like your idea for the armored vehicle. I also want bunkers to be able to have an upgrade that allows them to mount a heavy machine gun or missile launcher on top. Maybe dropships could actually land on the ground, along with shuttles. Overlords could like use their tentacles to pick up and set down units. I also seriously think that fightercraft should have the ability to fire a salvo of missiles at the ground (maybe protoss could fire a concentrated plasma beam or something).

Add an "Avenger" fighter to the Terran's reportoire. It's heavier than the Wraith, but it lacks the ability to cloak. An upgrade for this could be a faster engine and/or outfit it with a missile rack. Take the missiles off of the Wraith and have just laser cannons instead (also have lasers on the Avenger).

How about a Terran Commando unit? Like the Ghost, again lacking the cloaking. More powerful - perhaps a specialized automatic precision rifle? Less distance than the Ghost, more HP, but the ability to plant explosives and it's a bit cheaper. The Ghost would still be able to cloak, lockdown, order nuclear attacks, and use their sniper rifle (with added distance this time).

Give the medic a freaking pistol or something.

Also create a Terran psychic unit, in answer to the High Templar. This would create the possibility for a plot with psychics vs. ghosts (you know competition!). This would be an advancement over the Ghost project.

Just want you to know Felagund dropships landing on ground to load and unload units was in the first starcraft but they cut it out...i dont know why...i still wish sci vessals still had them crazy legs though happy.gif

It would be cool if you could take over your units (1st person) and fight with them until they died, that would be cool.

But I think the coolest thing that they could/should do, is make it so you can go off on different technological branches, instead of having a straight one.

Like, you have your wraith, and you can research a thing to give it a higher boster engine (kinda like the "Avenger" idea) without the cloak, and just different things like that. It would add hella more strategy to the game if all the races could go different ways.

Example: You have three Terran encampments. One of them is way into the heavy artillery stuff, another into heavy air technologies, and other into heavy ground technologies.

But they would have to make it so if you go a certain way, you couldn't go back smile.gif

That would be hella cool, and add more strategy for Bnet games cause of all the diverse enemys smile.gif

Awesomeness: If air units had dogfights instead of staring at each other a firing missiles.

Zerg Upgrade: Tunneling, Post-Hive Technology allows movement underground.

I say medics should stay the way they are...

Cool Idea: Since the High and Dark Templat have opposing energy forces, merging them could be the Toss Super Weapon, since only they lack one... Say you're fighting a losing battle, combine a DT and HT and watch the fireworks cool1.gif . A cool explosion, like a Plasma Grenade going off...

Terrans have nukes, Zerg have Infested Terrans, here is the Protoss answer...

Terran players can upgrade weapons for marines, say research medical equipment and then specify that's what the marine will be equiped with. The Marines, Firebats, and Medics could be combined, but in addition have, say, snipers. Heavy damage to infantry units, little damage to mechanized or large units, slow cooldown. Shotgun Marines, close range unit (closer than marine but farther than firebat) that does massive damage to small units but (once again) very little to large ones.

Marines could be equipped with grenades to spice up combat. In turn, Zealots could have, like, their own breed of grenade and Zerglings could have toxic spores. They run out but could be resupplied at Depots, Gateways, and Spawning Pools.

More interesting combat, random stuff like accuracy and fear that hinders their efficiency. <<< The zerg could have an advantage because in the face of overwhelming numbers, they still lack fear.

BeeR owned this post too

Well, the zerg tunnelling might be a bit cheap. You are basicly kind of like an air unit and can walk under (fly over for air units) anything. There isin't any really unfair things that I can think of that could happen but I just have a bad feeling that it could.

Hmm...more control over the maps.
Make your own units, make your own...lots of things.
Unit customization, individual unit naming...
Easy color usage (in game too)...
Easier to use effects... (like a unit that when made, auto-explodes)
More map sizes...more colors...more slots...more forces...
Customizable upgrades, so much more...

I see bright futuristic stuff in my crazy dream. ^_^

Do those things in a mod smile.gif

All i want is an ULTRA powerful campaign editor, better then warcraft 3's (even though thats very hard) it should have options as to dumb-it-down for people like me who can't for their life figure out wat all those fancy words mean. (jk, actually i was just lazy shifty.gif)
it should have terrain editing, custom units, make-a-trigger, things like that. That would be so awsome.. And if it stayed as 2d id play it for a long time. Who agrees its the editor that matters?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-07-07 at 17:11:30
I do.

If it was 2d, it would be way better than normal SC because of how diverse the maps could be!

I personally really don't want SC2 to be 3D - one of the reasons I love SC is watching cartoon units shoot each other over walls and suddenly pop into a pool of blood with no warning. I think the cartoonish graphics and the unrealistic gameplay makes this worth playing.

Anyway, as for new units.
There needs to be submarines (also ones that can go through lava). In UMS, there needs to be waaaay stronger looking heroes (like a hydralisk x2 the size of a command center etc.) for awesome UMS maps and RPGS. Zerg needs some kind of ultra air unit like the other races have . . . guardians and devourers just aren't enough compaired to carriors and BCs (in my opinion anyway, but I suck at melee so I probably have no say here). Protoss needs buildings that float in the air, without the ability to move or land like Terran does (flying cities yay). There should also be a new terrain type for underground and underwater. It would be interesting if they could somehow find a way to make a game that is completely in space (without platforms - maybe have the buildings floating on hover disks and the scvs in propelled rocket suits?).

They definately have to put in the new Zerg-Protoss hybrid race that they lead up to in the secret level (I'm sure it's safe to say that everybody has beaten the secret level, but come on guys, if you haven't beaten the secret level by now you never will). Yay - hydralisks that spit psi storms! (OK, maybe a little rigged there...)

The New Hybrid Race, The UED has controlled Mars (Suppose to, like what NASA plan to), The Terran from Mars, called UAC (Doom 3). The new Protoss Vindicator, Jim Raynor playable, hydralisks can change their attacks (Melee/Range), etc.

Obviously, it has to be 3D, it will have a bad rating from it's graphics and the graphics would be more real instead of WC3 because that's a future game. They hadn't decide anything on SC2 yet. So theres only 50/50 possibilty that blizzard keep their graphics in 2007 or farther. (2006 is Starcraft: Ghost) And Starcraft: Ghost is barely cartoony unlike WoW, it is.

BS, 2D graphics own, it's like saying Firing Line should have a low rating because it doesn't use terrain in the advanced editors, its bs

If you give SC2 a low rating just because it has 2D graphics, then that's dumb.

2D graphics don't make a game bad, hell for SC2 it would make it better than if it were 3D.

It should be rated on whether the 2D graphics are good or not, not how realistic they are compared to 3D closedeyes.gif
