Wouldn't it be cool to have an RPG where you WERE NOT SUPERIOR? In fact, maybe inferior? An RPG set in Iraq or some other warzone, where you are a normal marine with other players (also normal marines) and computer allies. The only thing that sets you apart is your human brain and perhaps the limited abillity to order nearby allies to attack, follow you or gaurd, and stimpacks maybe.

I think it'd be very immersive by giving the players the feel that they can die and that they have one life to live. It'd make them be more careful about what they do, and think about how to complete missions without anyone dying.

Well you'd better make some revive thing with it.

That would be pretty cool...hard to beat, but that only gives it more replay value.

And I disagree with the idea of putting in a revive; people should have to actually look after their unit for once. Making it so that players can fight to the death and hope to come back is just stupid and would basically ruin what you are trying to do.

I know. The entire point of my idea was that you had one life to live and that it was very possible that that one life could end. Just like a normal marine.

Hey, thats a really cool idea... Somebody's gotta do this. (Not me, im lazy! XD)

There are quite a few maps based on you being inferior. I had to save like 15 times to beat one of them. lol
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Penpen_lord on 2005-06-26 at 19:35:36
But be careful with that!! Cuz dont give them like one shot kill. If you do that, the players will die too fast. No one will want to play a game if you die in one hit.

It wont be an OHK map. It will be more like WoS1. Your a normal marine, fighting with other normal marines, against normal zerg or some such. Something like that.

Anyways, if you guys want to check out my idea in action, these maps might satisfy you:

World of Starcraft 1 Beta
Zerg Games

I'm almost certain it's been done before, but not in any project that recieved real attention. I've often considered it myself but I'm always focused on other projects so I say go for it, I'd like to see how it turns out.

I posted this in Ideas because I CANT DO IT! I lost my CD. If I had my CD though, this would be in map production with a demo.

So I posted the idea in the hopes that someone else would do it.

go to creepcolony.com I'm pretty sure you can download a program that lets you play starcraft without the cd

Heres the link to the page with it. It should be at the bottom of the download colomn.
I haven't used this yet so i don't know how well it works happy.gif

Oh, sorry.

I just got a small idea. Why not start as an inferior and then be able to like "upgrade your weapons and armor" to become superior?

I'll make a small 1player demo for you to test&comment when i get home. Later
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Snake)Ling on 2005-07-05 at 09:28:49
Well, Carnox, the entire crux of my idea is that you aren't superior.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nemus on 2005-07-05 at 09:40:50
Sorry, wasn't clear enough.

What i meant was that you start as an unit that's worse than the ones you're fighting. After getting some lucky kills you'll be able to upgrade your rifle to get at little bit tougher, but still not even equal.

EDIT:
I'm going to make the player feel like he/she's REALLY a part of the army.

Oh, speaking of which, I suggest you raise the stats up a bit. I mean, I really don't think people want to micromanage one 40hp 6dmg marine. It just doesn't look right. happy.gif

Basically, I'm suggesting that you raise the stats of all units to make players feel a bit more comfortable. biggrin.gif

I think limited upgrades would be nice. I didn't like WoS1 for that very reason, I couldn't do anything, just as insignifcant as the next marine.

maybe he could make our guys commanding officers? confused.gif

It would be not very fun if you didnt have some sort of enhancement. Maybe the first few levels you are unenhancedm and then you find some sort of enhancer (stimpacks? a new weapon?).

A couple of months ago I was thinking of puttin this in my map but im to lazy to even start it pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HeRtZ on 2005-07-06 at 05:08:45
No, dont have a revive thing in it. If you die just make a give unit to player trigger so it would be somewhat realistic. like if you die give the unit to the human player from the computer so you can just basically not die and not have a revive thing,
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Snake)Ling on 2005-07-06 at 11:50:14
For the last time, NO. You die, game over.

Let me rephrase the idea:

You are a normal trooper in an army of other normal troops. You fight alongside them and maybe can command nearby computer units. But if you die, you die. The end.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mr.Kirbycode774 on 2005-07-06 at 21:47:08
"If you die, you die. The End."

Yeah, people can't seem to understand the meaning "one chance". Still, it seems somewhat harsh if you get pushed into the front lines and are unable to flee. I suggest this map have intent for your normal marines to become leaders and lead your allied units to victory. If you truly are as insignificant as one marine in a group of 100 marines, then what's the use of you even being there?

Really, the only way you could do a game where you have no abilities greater than the next unit is where you're playing a multiplayer shooter with 50+ people. Of course, you really can only have up to 6 people in Starcraft, so this map REALLY needs to focus on your ability to command troops.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Snake)Ling on 2005-07-07 at 08:57:13
Commanding troops and perhaps commandeering vehicles are good ideas that would be implemented.

And who said you can't flee, Kirby?
