i was wondering how long u guysd work on maps (probably five mins)
i would say for me 2 hours+
Days, weeks, and months isn't listed ... 2 hours DOES NOT make a good map.
I spend weeks, sometimes months on mine.
Hey umm it says 2 hours+ MEANING ANYTHING BEYOND THAT POINT!!!!!!!!!!!
Its not how long you spend on it, its how good the map is. If I spend 10 minutes a map and its good, then its good. If I spend 10 hours on a map and it sucks, the fact that I spent 10 hours making it doesn't mean shiz.
EDITAGE
Well, noticed you said "on a map a time". This would depend on my motivation. If I was in some kinda slump, I may not get past starting StarEdit or get lost in the middle of some daydream and never even lay down a single unit. If I'm really feeling it, and I mean at a PEAK, I'll enter a sub-conscious clicking and typing state. I will not be able to respond to any external stimuli until I leave this state and can go on in it for hours at a time. Once I leave this state even I'm amazed at the progress I made. For a few minutes I may also try to apply StarEdit concepts to real life (ie, "Light Switch" is "on", Create "Light" at "Lightbulb") Usually I'm somewhere in between.
if im in the mood

i would be in a good idea, it'll be for two hours of planning, and then weeks or months to make a good map. 2 hours? the #### do u make?!
I work beyound 2+ It takes me ages for just an idea. then comes the terrian layout. Then the triggers, Its mind blowing.
But i works Weeks, Months on maps.
It takes me about 2 weeks to a month to make a good map. Triggering alone takes up a good week or two for me. Map making isn't something you can really rush, it’s like an art where you should take your time and do a good job.
for me it takes a long time becouse mine never gets done

I take 10 minutes - 1 hour...
...per session.
ive been working on grand theft auto vice city for 5 months now...all the missions...so many trigs...take so long to dl!!the terrain for risk right now is pissing me off
The shortest I've ever made was made in 3 days (Halloween Movie map), the biggest so far is Overmind RPG, it took me 1.5 months.
The longest I take is at least 1 month to 3 months.. I have to ensure that triggers are right.. everything is fair.. and if its user friendly.. B)
Well since im a newbie mapmaker with a short attention span, I have a great idea for a map, then I try and make one, but suddenly I realize that im a horrible mapmaker and give up after ten minutes.

I soooooo understand you, DT

Since I only make melee maps, I get about 1 hour done one day, and another hour the other day. It's just so I can have different minds about different things to balance, etc...
So you can say a UMS map maker would take AT LEAST 2 hours to make a decent and balanced terrain.
Yeah, it takes me one to two hours to make the terrain for any map. I try to be as creative and neat as possible.
Take this map for example...
There are so many ways to manipulate terrain it gets hard to choose which is the right type for your map... I usually do regular sc diagonal style, or sometimes a hybrid... Terrain for me is pretty hard to do... If I did terrain like Chu's I wouldn't feel comfortable. I don't like randomness, instead I use patterns to effectively organize my terrain and it helps to show where to put areas and locations. Map making takes forever with me... I think I am finished with a map, but I constantly keep thinking of more things to add or remove... So I call maps that I can't think up anymore, DONE, although I feel unsecure of the map heh...
Some maps require organization of terrain, some maps require randomness.
Usaully randomly placed terrain maps come out like crap, I like symmetrical ones the best, because they look more "professional" and organized. But Chu's map does look pretty good though.
I just can't make a random map... THE BALANCE!! xD
Almost every aspects of my maps are perfectly symetric, cuz, you know, it's uberly important in melee and I believe it is too, in UMS maps...
UMS mapping is harder. It can take weeks or months to complete.
But, in the end, it kicks ###!
May I take that as a "melee is easy to make, so they sucks" statement? :eyebrow:
No. You can take that as, Melee is easy to make, because it doesn't have triggers or locations or balancing of units or ...
Sups all just came back finally a post
