How the hell do you get maps with sound files to not take forever to download? I tried for my maps, TAKES FOREVER. And I've cut down size and made loop. And the Demonstration map or whatever with the sound file "sadlong" is almost a minute long. I hosted a public just to see the rate, and it was slow, but x15 times faster than what my maps would do. WHAT AM I MISSING?!
It all always depends on the size of the sounds you are using. No matter what you do, the speed of a download depends on 1: Upload Speed 2: Download Speed 3: Total Size of Map.
However, there are a few ways around this.
A concept made called Open Sound Format utilized the MPQ files to embed the sounds into StarCraft instead. This method was abadoned, but, no matter this, you can always use StarCraft sounds without adding ANY additional file size to the map. The way to accoplish 'Sizeless Sounds' is found in the Tutorial section here.
Bah that doesn't explain why the demonstration map with "sadlong.wav" in it uploads faster than another map with smaller wavs. And map size tolls smaller than the demonstration map.
I've tried uploading it to a series of people. And through people I know, the difference shows. I know bandwidth has variation. But not to that degree. And my theory of map upload bandwidth is that there's a limit. Meaning cable makes no difference. I have cable, and I see it ridicules to download/upload with another cable user, for some pitiful 200kb size file, for more than a minute.
SCM Draft and Starforge already support that. It's obvious I don't want that though, I was custom sounds.
Attach the map or the sound file your refering to.
Sounds can be compressed at the sacrafise of quilaity.
