[attachmentid=11094]This isn't my map. Not too many people know this bad ass map. It's old, but way ahead of it's time. So pretty much it's up to times right now. It's well balanced.
I've heard certain complaints...
"Rigged unit"
Nonsense... People seem to complain about specific units me and a friend will use, because we know how to use them. So that they're really powerful, that they think it's an overpowered unit. And just because something is overpowered doesn't mean it's rigged, could just be unbalanced. But in this case it's well balanced.
"Unbalanced"
Another bunch of nonsense, people not understanding it. Know your unit's abilities, strength, and weaknesses.
"You can't micro in this, it has spells/abilities(trigger)."
People need to think before the speak... If you used dark swarm with melee units, or use ensnare to out mobile units. You'd consider that as microing, those are spells/abilities. And you probably wouldn't say "it's not micro-able" for Warcraft 3 spells in UMS, when there's a lot of custom spells. It's no different.
"Serpent is rigged"
Serpent is crap unless you split it quite a bit. You can split it up to 60 supplies worth, which is pretty overwhelming force. Simple trick, stop being the cowardly defense map/comp stomp player you are and actually go on the offense for once, and prevent it from happening.
"Priest is rigged/heals are gay"
Just one simple thing to this... KILL FAST ENOUGH!
"Can't counter units"
Uhhhg... Priest can easily be taken out by ogre. Ogre has the ability to drop you to almost no health, then which one attack will kill you. Heal that... Ogre, easily countered by witch, or rat queen. Witch can simply use infested terrans, since they're explosive and ultralisk is a big target. Rat queen can fodder her air rat, or a ground rat, causing it to use up mana on unwanted use of rage.
Pretty much to sum it up, and what I've been saying through out... Is don't make boasts until you KNOW, and I don't mean having tried once. I mean KNOW every unit and it's abilities, just like any other game.
My only complaint is minor.
"Goddamn airblocks!"
As any sniper player has notice, the chance to miss a target on same ground in the open(not by a tree). Highest chance of it seems to be with ghost or vulture, might just be concussive damage type. But yeah, to use your abilities you shoot them with a ghost off to the side. But airblocks are rare, so it's really not a problem.
I've played this map alot, probably more than you, and it is save that it is bugged, and unbalanced because of it.
1) Marine will randomly give you extra lives, and randomly just die when your machine dies. Alone, he is the best character in the game.
2)Serpent is retardedly powerful in the hands of a competant team. In 3v3, it's a race to pick him first.
The map is still kick ass though.
Me and my friend have played 3on3s as well as 2on2s, and we've never had problems with the serpent, in fact it's rare we use it. And yet we stand undefeated as a team. And yet with condending against serpent many times. Say the have serpent covered? Big deal, get a witch, use fireball, and hit his/hers serpent egg morph, and it instantly kills them. Costing him/her 200 mana, and you 50 mana. 100 for the egg morph, and 100 for the serpent, that was morphed from an egg. And believe me they can't keep that up forever, it tends to add up fast.... 200:50, 400:100, 600:150, 800:200, 1000:250. And if you ask me... 1000 mana doesn't come be fast in the map, considering the most mana you can have at a time is 499.
Trust me, me and my friend have done worse than the Serpent, try me having a base, with more than 12 mutalisks, and him as slug tamer with 14 carriers filled up, and 11 reavers with a scarab in each. Let's see how those "big bad serpents" do.
And the mech class can easily be beat by Rat Queen. Lives are not random either. How many times must I say know the units before boasting? The way it works, first you start as a marine, if you die as that, then you're dead. After that stage, you can pick a mech, and if you die in that stage, you become marine, and you're past that stage, and if you choose to go back to marine from that stage, you pass that stage, we'll just call it "second stage," after which from going from mech morph to marine "third stage," as marine in third stage is the same as the first, you die, you're dead. Now choosing a moprh from the stage you go into "fourth stage" where in this stage, you best make the best with it. Because if you select to go back to marine, you're dead. And of course if you die in this stage you're dead.
The only "bug" about the mech class I've come across, which does suck. Is when in a mechanical mode you get killed by "suicidal" you're stuck in this zone between dead and in-play. Where you have no units, but you don't get to repick. That's my only complaint, but realistically, how often does a person die to suicidal in that map? My friend has fallen to that twice, and he learned really fast, if he knows he can't get out, he changes to marine.
