Strickers 1945 Plus is an insert quarters arcade game for the pricy commerical neo-geo OS.
In this game you select an old style plane and try to fly to the end of the level with maximum exsposions along the way.
Here are some screen shots for those of you who haven't come across this game in an arcade.

Now Mp)3, who I consider to be a great map maker decided for one of his final projects that he might make a plane game.

Now I have an idea for how a starcraft 1945 clone might work.
You "plane" would be a corsiar. It would attempt to shoot down enemy planes with it's (upgradeable) main gun, as well as possibiliy homing missiles (scorges), stronger shot (cloaked observers that would fire forward).
You would bump into power up units to gain minerals to upgrade your shot and your hoaming minerals.
There would also be a stargate that you would use to activate your special abilites. One or two or so of those abilities would be defensive plane that you would summon to block enemy missiles and unleash a powerful attack. Other things not from the origanal arcade game could easily be included as well.
You disruption web would be used both as a bomb (not from origanal game) and to unleash your super shot.

The enemys should be other flying units, such as shuttles, BCs, and just about any other air (and some ground) unit. They would shoot mostly pink bullets (scourges) towards you, but that do not hoam in on you (like regular scourges) as well as blue bullets which would be a much faster unit like a upgraded shuttle. Most of your time and energy should be spent doing nearly impossible manuvers weaving around these bullets (just like in the game).

I'll elaborate more later. If you have any questions about how a certain thing might work pratically, please post here. Also tell me what you think and provide ideas of what the gateway should do.

Little known fact, but wraiths actually do splash, very little though (which is why they r rigged in most air golems). I'm using a corsiar becuase it only attacks air and becuase I can use the disruption web with triggers.

Dude, in the arcade it only moves side to side and up and down. dont diagonal and wherever the palyer wants it to go.

I suggest u use a narrow map and wit ha gateway to control teh corsair. (make it move left and right and one to fire and oen to use bomb. A observer will be moving up and the corsair is center onto it at all times and with triggs u can make the observer move left to right.
Have u played lvl up defense?
Somethign like that. After u finish a lvl the units and etc change.

Umm, it's not like the arcade, you just move the observer.

And yes, if you've acutally played 1945 Plus like I have, the stick might only go in eight directions, but you need to change them so fast if your going to survive that it's like moving wherever you want.
Also, I think the stick might be analog anyway, but I'm not sure about that.

Such a movement system would be unwilely, boring, diffucult to make and pointless.
You will be able to move the corsiar like any other unit, I'm sorry if it's not super advanced or realistic.

Yeah, I was thinking of making a game like this for quite a while, but it seems very difficult to implement into SC effectively. I was thinking of making a completely new engine for it, making it SC 3D. I'll probably be posting my ideas for it soon.

It's not difficult to impement at all though. Esepcailly when you can call on people like TT for help.

I have a fairly good idea of how this would work, so could you tell me what system you think would be the most difficult to implement.

EDIT: I think trying to make a new engine for it, or using warcraft III would be more trouble then it's worth. Starcraft can definatly do this kind of thing.

I started something like this awhile ago but didn't like the interceptor effect which i intended on having goons attack long range to make it seem like you're flying foward in space..

It was Galaxian though.

Oh, and Firepower2000 was a better upwards shooter than 1945 plus. tongue.gif
Anyway, good luck with it. And I was wondering, is the screen going to constantly move upwards, because thats cooler than having the screen center on the player.

Yes that would probably be better! alot better cause you can change terrain too... you can also have it loop so once you get to the end... it moves you back in the same relative spot you were at the end using Bolt-Head's elevator system. his new one that is.

Which platform is firepower2000 for? I WANA PLAY IT! (can someone PM me a link to dl it?)

I was thinking that the screen would constantly move (very slowly, at the speed of a slow overlord or something) and you wouldn't be able to move off the screen invisible walls.
You can recommend at the beginging of the game that they press the hotkeys to turn screen edge scrolling of (I think you can turn it off).

I need to investigate your scroll engine and boltHead's evevator engine when I get back home (is there a map with it, or do you need to be an insider on the rm of HotH?)

What I'm most worried about is how to make the bullets shoot like in 1945 Plus. They had some pretty wierd pattens that might be hard to pull off.

There should be special looping boss screens (sections of terrain) that blend with the main sections of terrain, in this game.

Well the thing is, it was the idea of RaidenX and 1945 to get me doing the project. I'm actually doing an entirely different game, but it has the same system and within 3D World. I didn't want to make a duplication of the games, but rather a remake of the originals to make it more interesting. In fact, I started the day before yesterday, and I must say, this is definetly going to be a worthwhile map. I'll be making the Production Thread for it now. biggrin.gif

I didn't plan this to be a remake either, and I thought that making it 3D (I get what you mean now) would slow it down.
I think that your map is going to have an different style then the map I had in mind. I have a feeling it's going to be less boundy and more RPGish.

I can't see the production thread. I guess I'll have to wait a few hours.

They're all the same basically. I was just thinking 1945 Plus becuase I was playing it the other day.
However it might be cooler as raptor, becuase you can buy stuff with money you collect.

We should merge all of the air combat games and make some kind of super map!
