I was looking through the old Map of the Week section over at Battle.net and I found a map that looked interesting, Firing Line, hmm.

To my suprise it wasn't the often lame Blizzard UMS map I was expecting, but it was actually Tetris on StarCraft. It was done really well too, nice control scheme.

I'll give it a nice 8.75/10

I like how they used a marine walking across the bottom as a timer, very innovative for a map that looks like it was only made in StarEdit.

this might b better with hyper triggers because i've noticed that when i kill the marine it takes a couple of seconds b4 the block actually moves

Heres my Review:

Alright, we got a map here,(no Duh happy.gif) made by someone who submitted it to blizzard, and the map was eventually put in the "Map of the Week/month". First of all, when I hit start, i wasen't expecting something amazing or revolutionizing, but after the game had started, i coulden't belive what i saw( i was really wrong). The mission breifing gives a short, but somewhat detailed explination of the game, and your objective is simple, clear out waves of units before your units get stacked up to high. I found the map very fun and addicting, which was another surprise to me, considering Blizzard maps are more about micro Management. The game also used different, randomixed units that came in different randomized positions. you then kill marines in order to move your units around. When i opened the map, i was almost overwhelmed by the huge amounts of locations and the huge amounts of triggers. the way this person had set everything up, with a simple grid system and a little less Locations, this map could easily contend with many maps today. The one thing that disapointed me, however, was the way the terrain was done. It was incredibly crude, and the flags didn't really serve to much of a purpose. One downside to the map though is that you need to be a hardcore tetris fan to really appreciate this, its still fun to give it a try at least once. One last thing that you should think about is how indefinetly original this map was. Aside from that, this map was one of the most fun and original maps that Have seen come out of Blizzard.

Terrain: 5.5/10
Originaillty: 10/10
Creativity: 9.5/10
Complexity: 10/10
Fun level: 9/10

Overall: 9.0/10

Hmmm...

Well, I'm gonna be a bit mean on this one, since I hate Tetris for being addicting without really being fun (don't you hate when you don't like a game but can't stop playing it?).

The triggering is extensive, but it could definitely be cleaned up a bit using more recent triggering innovations. Also, much of the impressiveness of what this map can do comes from lots and lots of work as opposed to creativity in triggering; the map maker tries to cover all instances of a situation as opposed to creating general triggers which can cover all instances of a situation. Furthermore, all the trigger comments are annoying...I like to actually be able to see what is going on. And the idea of trademarking the concept of a moving unit as a timer is not something that this person has the right to do, as it is not a particularly original idea. These aren't flaws with the map, as the current systems work fine, but they are areas for improvement.

The control system might be okay if you had a good mouse that clicks reliably. Not having such a mouse, or the patience to aim at the little marines every time I wanted to move a piece, I grew progressively angrier at the control system as the game went on. Of all the flaws of this map, this is probably the most severe. A keyboard or more refined mouse system could have helped.

A few less serious issues: the piece movement started out a bit on the slow side, the game's scaling isn't quite right for the size of the view window, and an accidental press of the decloak button and it's pretty much game over.

I like a few things about it:
-In-game systems are reliable in terms of having few bugs.
-It is truer to the "real" tetris than I expected, even having the ability to slide a piece quickly to the side when you land it.
-It gets annoying tetris-playing-types out of multiplayer UMS games.

Overall: 7/10. Not bad at all, considering that the most I'd be willing to give to anything tetris-based would be a 7.5. Main area needing improvement: gameplay.

Yea, I edited this once with hyper triggers and noticed that.

One thing I really thought of as I looked at the triggers and played this is how it was made without the use of any fancy extra editors or really "complex" or efficient triggering.

I liked the "charm" of the simple terrain and the flag borders, and I could tell this is one of those classics made in only editors like StarEdit.

Wow. This game is very unique and its flawless.. very fun to play just I think its a little slow pased. That game must of taken him ages to make. blink.gif There should be a version with square terrain and hyper triggers it would be more attractive happy.gif

7/10 is my rating

Thats exactly how I have felt about it.

Also it would be much easyer to control the peace with a dropship than aiming at the marines. There are many better ways you could of controled the peace. Its ashame you have to watch the minimap as you aim at the individual Marines.

A mere 5/10. It wasn't fast paced enough for my "ETTB" (Extremely Talented Tetris Brain) Also some tetris music would have made it much funner. Also why not make it a drop-dropship or build-unit system. Would be much funer that way

This map is pretty good for a blizzard made map. Whereas if this were made by some other random person on battle.net, it should've been alot better.

I agree, blizzard likes to stick to regular staredit than put square terrain and all the new things other map makers do. perhaps squre terrain and a picture in the mini map woulda made this alittle neater.
