I got this game yesterday, and it's freaking sweet.
Basicly to sum the storyline up, there's a race called "The Seekers" (No, it's not Moose's map...), they appear to everyone as a good race, but in reality, they're not. One day, another race called the Aurelians show up at your planet (Not Earth, Earth got blown up a while ago), and warn you that the Seekers are coming to kill you and all the humans. They see the humans as God's, and offer anything they can to help them.
You are Gideon Wyeth. You go out to the meet the Aurelians when they tell you about the planet getting blown up and stuff, and right after you leave, they come.
Well anyways, this game is really cool. You can level up in alot of masteries just by using it, so jumping alot lets you be able to jump higher and do more effective dodge moves, ect. One of the Aurelians teaches you the "Old Religion" which basicly enables you to use powers like Push, Shield, Shatter, and some other cool stuff. Theres eight different powers, and 12 (I think) different weapons that you can get throught the game.
Any weapon(s) you pick up are duel-wieldable, so you can have two machine guns, two pistols, two rocket launchers, ect, and every weapon has an alternate fire mode, ranging from emptying the clip in one shot, grenades, and more. Powers also take up a slot in your hand, so you can have two powers, two weapons, or one weapon and one power at the same time. What's even cooler, is that you can go hand to hand with ANYONE, so if you run out of ammo, you can just start beating down people. You can do all kind of combos, like seismic punch, snapping peoples necks, and more. Certain power's can be used in tandem with melee fighting too, so you can use a time dash to get in an enemies face really fast.
The fighting in this game is intense. You can have you and two allies fighting off swarms of seekers. You can jump around, and dodging gives you a head shot lock. If you get your dodging up high enough, then you can slow time everytime your dodging in a combat thing. You end up doing space battles, where everyone jumps really high, and you can use a power to chunk people off the edge. The dodging system works great. You can dive away from people, depending on your level, you can roll or flip away from people, or just jump back shooting both weapons at the same time.
Another cool thing is that you can switch from between third and first person view, so which ever you like better, you can stick with.
Also, this game, depending on some choices, determines the outcome of the game.
Mastering weapons and abilities works great too. You can get increased damage, accuracy, alternate fire for powers, seeking bullets, new combos, better dodging, and more. If you use something alot, it's going to get mastered quick, but if you don't, then you wont master it very fast.
There's a variatety of vehicles in this game. You don't get to piolet much (Three different vehicles, I think) but the ones you get to use are cool. There's a hover tank that does insane amounts of damage, and a buggy like thing that if you use it's boosters fast enough, you can literally fly through the air.
The music in this game is brilliant, it blends in nice and sounds great. The sounds effects are the same. The graphics are a little...round, I would say, not like the top notch, but still realistic. When you go into first person mode, they don't look all that great either, but, it's not that bad.
There's only one thing I don't really like about this game, which was the targeting system. You don't have to use it, but it's still nice to use, but it locks on whenever you move the camera joystick, so sometimes you'll be walking up something, move your camera, and it'll lock onto an enemy or object below you, while there's still people near you. It's not the hardest thing to use, but it get's annoying when it keeps moving around and makes you move places you don't want to.
My Ratings:
Gameplay (Fighting, ect): 10/10
Interface (HUD, targeting, ect.): 8/10
Storyline: 9/10
Graphics: 7/10
Sounds: 10/10
Overall Rating: 9/10
I would recommend this to anyone who likes fast paced games, such as The Specialists, a mod for Half-Life.
