Is PenguinPlug illegal? i use it all the time, it has some great features, but people are saying that it is illegal, how is it illegal it isn't cheating?

No it's not illegal, You can't go to jail for it.

But it is illegal towards SC, Since it is a 3rd party program for starcraft, Blizzard considers it a hack.

Blizzard changed their TOS a long time ago so that only game harming 3rd party programs are disallowed... I dunno where the exact quote is but that's what I was told when I got BWScanner.

I found the quote....

QUOTE
Is it allowed to use PenguinPlug with starcraft ?
Like any third party program (bwscanner, lasgo tools, RWA, apmlive), it is forbidden by the Blizzard EULA. If i consider the french laws in the "code de propriété intellectuelle", only the author of a program like Starcraft has right to modify it or allow someone to modify it. However, the user is allowed to modify it if it contain errors that are necessary to be fixed for the product to be used properly (my translation is probably not accurate, check the "article L122-6-1 du code de la propriété intellectuelle" if you want) If i understand this law properly, it mean that it's legally allowed to make an anti-crash and probably anti-cheats, since i cant imagine that beeing crashed every couple of hour or letting the other player obtain an unfair advantage to be considered as "proper use" of a video game.

Blizzard considers every Third Party Program as a hack, PenguinPlugin, BWChart, etc... But they are more concentrated on Map hacks and morph hacks so no worries.

So will someone answer my question and tell me what this thing is?

PenguinPlug is a third party program that lets you see text in replays, along with some other abilities. Search on Google PenguinPlug, something should come up

What? What does that have to do with text?
He was talking about messages...
It also includes an anti-crash, but those are the only two features I know of.

Oh messages.. I thought you'd be able to see what people are typing in replays...

How would it record what they're typing? Why does it matter if you can only see what they actualy enter?

BW Chart does that, but not during the game. It's an entirely different program from PenguinPlug which deals with replays and preventing some crashes.

Technically, SCMdraft, Starforge, and all the other programs we host here could be considered as a breach of the EULA. Blizzard chooses not to take action, because they are seemingly harmless, however if someone has a problem with a program, blizzard is not obligated because of the EULA.

I don't really care if its considered a hack or not, I find it very useful and good to run, I don't even think about it because I've set my PP.exe icon to the SC one and also changed the shortcut name to Starcraft.exe tongue.gif

I don't think anyone should be against PP, unless you for some reason don't want replay with text or autosaving replays. There's no reason to stop people from having this because it really doesn't give the person ANY advantage in a game, like a maphack does. This program wasn't meant for that, just like the xtra editors weren't meant to do anything bad.

Well, unless you consider not getting crashed by a map made by an arsehole to be an 'unfair advantage'. tongue.gif

Who gives a crap if that's an advantage or not.

PenguinPlug isn't a hack, all it does it records player's messages. I wonder what the problem with that?

ADDITION:
Blizzard could of thought of that...

i like pp cuz it shows download rates which is really helpful when u can't go cuz someone still needs to dl the map.
