I remember when all the game types were played, a long long time ago... Now they're dead zones. I can understand not liking greed, and CTF, and Sudden death. Those game types favor to races. But I don't see why Team Melee/Free For All are dead, they're actually kind of fun. But I could see how it's annoying if you don't have the right partner.

Has anyone actually ever played those game types?
Who actually still plays them?
Who would consider forming a group to play one, or more of them?

Team Melee often ends-up with people disagreeing on actions so that they get completely screwed.
I know that I like having a team-mate to protect me from the occasional odd group of enemies while I build up an army.
Actualy, the only gametypes I play are UMS and melee. And if it's melee, almost never without mods.

Yeah, but that's only when you get a bad teammate. But look at it this way, at least it's not a bad teammate in normal melee, when it ends up 2on1.

It's funny that UMS to use the Team Melee system.

I think Team Melee should at least be popular with pros, it would be cool like having team of 2 professionals each having to work together. With their overall talent they should be able to do incredible micro/macro in very serious games.

I sometimes play CTF melee. Its fun as hell, building up your force, creating a distraction to drop your scv with a dropship and get the flag, bring it back to the beacon and bam you win.

Greed, I aslo played, pretty fun.

Sudden Death, now this is good, kill your opponents Nexus/Command Center/Hatchery, no matter if they build a different one, and they lose. fun happy.gif

Free for all, I remember a while back like in patch 1.10 where Free For all was still played, like only 5 games but still was there.

That's kind of what I was thinking, filling those quarter-second-gaps.

I would think amature would be enlured as well, with the whole multi-racing factor.

I guess the part where they have to earn their other race(s) scares them off. I guess they should just stick to Free Fastest Everything 3 Races! for what they play.

ADDITION:
Yeah, Sudden Death = Bad for zerg.
CTF = Good for protoss Push in, recall out.

no, that would suck. With hotkeys it's easy to macro/micro. team micro just ends with whichever team makes the biggest disagreement first. Those of you who like Team melee, you should try Nekwitz Battlegrounds.

That's why it's called "team" melee. The art of synchro and/or communication.

Why haven't you been "banned"?

This is why you try to get a good team you can work with. The idea is you can perform as if all your skills were combined. If you're going to go on a team with people you hate, there's not really much point. Also, you should try to keep teams small, less people will equal less arguments.

My old friend used Team Melee to help me learn melee a bit more.

One person controls macro the other controls micro. Since when you micro, you tend to let your resources build up.

Team Melee is a very effective way of observing. It's decently fun, and I do it once in awhile. I wouldn't mind playing in a Team Melee tournement (pre determined partners that you stick with through the whole tourney) if one was held. The reason you won't find these games in pubbies is pretty simple... people don't trust pubs. There's likly a lot of these games going on, they're just private.

Never seemed to be a problem in the old days. It was very popular. I guess it's just that people are too worried about their meaningless record. "GOTTA COMPETE WITH THAT GUY WHO HAS 1337-0-0!"

I played pubbie team melees. Every game without fail someone everyone on your team would just be like "okay im starting my own base once I get enough minerals" or the other team would have people like that and the games would just be rediculously boring.

We started bases of other races, but not our own. Simply because it's a non-money map, and expanding is needed anyways. Start terran, expand with zerg is the way to go. And Protoss? WASTE!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-07-08 at 17:21:41
I'm not sure how you figure that. You still share the same resource pool. How is Protoss a waste?
