Due to all the crap from people I've seen on this forum, here is a list of things that the community needs to at least try to change.
-Language. This site is suppose to be professional. While the game is rated "Teen", why do people still have to cuss? First, it only makes that person look immature. Second, whoever does that has already lost my respect (and possibly many others). Third, it just degrades the entire forum. Not to mention annoying and just not cool at all. There might be a case in which a person needs to say it for expressive reasoning, but I can't find an example, so I'm going with what I already said.
-Abbreviations And "1337 speak". What's the point of it? If you can't type with proper english (doesn't apply if you're new to the language), then please don't even bother typing. If you type like: "OMGZ PlZ sUm1 Help Me Wit dis PRoBLem!!11" or something similar, do you actually expect a professional answer? No, all you're going to get are people who say they can't understand you. The other thing about it is, this is not a chat room. You have plenty of time to get your thoughts together and type it out carefully. People will still read it.
-Ignoring Things. This applies to everyone and it's two parts.
The first part is about moderators. I'm not asking for you guys to read everything little sentence (although, it would nice if you could), but if you see spam, please, lock the thread or post a warning or something. Don't ignore it. If you ignore it, the person will think it's ok and continue with it. Then, after you finally do get annoyed by it, you'll lock it and that person will be pissed off. Bad for both the person and the community. Basically, try to establish the rules as soon as possible instead of waiting.
The second part is everyone else. If you're going to reply to a thread, any thread, read the thread first. Always read it. Always. This might not always be true in the "Garbage" (AKA, Moose Zone) forum, but for the places that are serious or helpful, read first. A lot of times, you simply post what someone else has already said. Then people will say that someone else has already said it. This not only generates spam, but you'll feel bad later on due to the mocking.
-Asking Stupid Things. Seriously, think about the problem before trying to ask for help. The best way for anyone to learn is to learn it by themselves. If that fails, it's better to ask for someone. If it's simply beyond your comprehension of it, it might be better to try to understand the basics before even going on to try something advanced. What's the point of creating a massive RPG if you don't know what an action is? Some of the most obvious answers can be found in StarEdit's (the program) Help Documentation. If you don't know the answers that can be found in there, it's probably better for you to read it before trying to ask a question here. Most of the things are common sense.
-Answering Questions. This is simple and there isn't a lot of problems I see. I see lots of wrong answers, but that is ok. What is not ok is saying "We have tutorials..." and then giving a link. First, it shows that you don't really care about the question, you simply want to give an answer and go away. If you're not even going to dedicate the time to explain something, then don't even bother posting an answer. Espcially one like that. Much better would be showing a simple solution (complex if needed of course!) and linking to the tutorial for further analysis. Second, it makes this site look bad; instead of dedicated people, we have people who devote their times to tutorials only, instead of trying to help. Machines do this. Humans do not.
That's all I can think of for now. This list is mostly dedicated to the "Use Map Settings" forum (though, it can be applied everywhere). I'm sure there are some more things that are incredibly annoying and simply unfit for this site too, but I can't think of them. Comments are welcome!
I don't really think this belongs as a news post, moved to teh Moose Zone.

People cuss, just accept it. I don't really think we should have filters but Yoshi tries to keep the board friendly for more people so we do have some.

I agree, but this is starting to look more like a rant than anything else. Posting this isn't really going to change anyone, it can only influence them.

Moderators, I think, let stuff slide by because it's not fun for anyone to be 100% strict. Just like I let small insults and spam go by, I'm sure others do too. Nobody's perfect, and no one should hold them up to that standard.

It's hard to accept on a forum. I don't mind it in chat rooms, but people should at least try to keep it clean here.
Other things, I mean them in general, little things can be ignored, but when it get's back, some action needs to take place instead of letting it get bigger.
I don't think cussing matters much, as long as it is not every other word.

I agree on that one.

No, they're lazy and don't read every topic.

On the other hand, you're too active and obsess over some ridiculous stuff. (your sig - your old sig - most likely your future sigs) I don't think people not reading everything is lazy, it's just normal. Thats what the report button is for - moderators can't be everywhere upholding every rule all the time.
Yes, and there are some rumors, crazy I know, that some of the moderators have lives outside of SEN, further reducing their time spent here. Everyone makes mistakes, but some people make too many mistakes.

In other words, it's better posting nothing than posting a link to a tutorial?
No, he means that you should answer the question.

Posting a link is answering the question
It's their fault if the answer IS in the tutorials but they are too lazy to look for it.
And I was right anyways about what was said.
Yes, if you took it literally and failed to think, you are literally "right." But you didn't so you didn't come up with a good answer.
Devilesk, I know it's sad, but some people are too lazy to click on a link to a tutorial. Plus it just looks better if you actually answer it yourself.
Hahaha, I could have bet you would say that!!
I had two and only two possible ways of interpreting his post (listen up, I'm about to own you again
):
- Whenever you see a question to which you know the answer, you are required to give a detailed explaination.
- If you see a question to which you know the answer, don't reply unless you give a detailed explaination.
I chose the latter (which, while unreasonable, is more reasonable than the first). I then responded saying that it's stupid, and you, in an attempt to prove me wrong, said that isn't what he meant. I then showed you his quote, and you, knowing you were wrong, said that he didn't actually mean what he said.
So you saying that he meant the first thing?
Again, those are the only two possible interpretations.
The above post is proof that he ...
a. Did not read my post
b. misinterpreted my post
c. Is one of the people I'm talking about
d. All of the above
The correct answer is... d.
He did not read it yet he interpreted it correctly and is one of the people you're talking about. That sounds fi-what? I think you worded one of those improperly.
crap. I meant misinterpret. or incorrectly
I find the whole "1337 speak" thing annoying as the next guy. But I don't plan on forcing my ideals onto someone else. Besides it's fun to make fun of those who do it because they think they're cool using nerdy internet lingo. Social denial is what it's called, yes indeed.
Abbreviations, acronyms and such. If you're against such things, and say RADAR, SONAR, or SCUBA, which I'm sure you do, then you're a hypocrite...
And answering questions... I don't see a problem with that. Be smart enough to reason a good answer and a bad answer. If not you'll learn in time it's not good, and your lore will increase. Sometimes it's bes to get away from official help and from the regular joe. For example my router issue I was having. I went to Blizzard Tech Support... No help what so ever. I went to Linksys tech support FOUR TIMES, and still no help. Pretty much like someone was reading a book back to me, that had answers to none of my concern. It took an regular joe to solve my problem.
The best way for anyone to learn? You're requesting people not to make "stupid questions," maybe you should make stupid such a stupid/close minded statement. Who are you to set a standard for the best way to learn? Each person is different, and learns in their own way. And asking happens to be one of them. People need things explained differently from other people. If your theory worked, then why would schools have teachers if everyone could just do textbook?
Cussing making a person immature? Are you about to call a whole fleet of construction workers, who raise a family, hold a job, and so on immature? Trust me, they cuss a lot... "Proffessional," I understand having a respect for the site, but stop treating as if it's a CEO for an enterprise, have a sense of reality... Sure it may be an immature act, but it doesn't make the person immature.
Forcing ideals? I'm asking nicely for people to look more professional, or at the least, not look like a retard on a forum. I said it before, a forum is
not a chat room where you must mindlessly hit the keyboard for people to read what you write.

I ask that question plenty of times. I hate the way the school systems work right now. I can't change it. But this is something that people can change; it's not a big community and I'm not asking for much; just the most basic things that people should be doing at such an age anyway.

Cussing making a person immature?
Creates a terrible first impression. Besides, I've said it before, this is directed
mainly at the use map setting forum, which I do
not see any usage for such words.
Here are some links that made me post this.

Not to mention numerious immature acts on Trigonometry's part.
The tutorial database was created for quick reference. It was created to answer your questions. If a person is too lazy to look there, or could not find the tutorial, we help them by giving them the link. Most of them get their questions answered by the tutorial but they have further questions that the tutorial cannot answer. If the people have a question and don't understand the tutorial, they should tell us so we can fix it. I use the phrase "We have tutorials for everything!" because I want them to look there first the next time they have a question.
How someone says it shouldn't matter. As long as they establish the point, I see no reason of conflict.
As far as I'm concerned cussing is just slang. I don't see who voted for those specific words to be bad, when they mean the same things as fecal, sexual, dispictable, and these choice words aren't....
Some things I agree with, some I don't.
Swearing? If you have reason to swear, be my guess. So long as it isn't F***, go ahead. Let me reiterate. If you have reason to swear. Otherwise, its rather annoying. If you're swearing at me with every other word, please don't. Actually, you can swear, just don't use them to flame people or outright curse them out. That's when I start having big problems.
L33t speak and excessive shortforms? Yes, I agree. Let me run a quick test. "u" - the second hand of my watch didn't move. "you" - same result! I'm going to be honest. If you don't have time to type out "you" or "are", you shouldn't have had time to put thought into your post to make it contribute to the discussion.
Ignoring posts? Cheeze, I hate to point this out to you, but the mod staff is human. We have lives and other things to do than sit on the forums 24/7 to keep it peaceful. When I first started, there were a lot less people, and I would try to read every topic. There is a lot of stuff going on here, that is why its no longer possible. This is also why we have the report function.
I also have to add something: people argue too much over trivial matters. Look at ihatett and Felagund's posts for an example. Let me give you an expression you strong warrior types (surely you're as big in real life as you talk on the internet) might use frequently - "Let's take this outside". Try applying it you your posting. If you're going to fight someone, don't do it where we have to see it. That only adds more fuel to the fire.

In other words, carry out your flame war over IM, Email, PM or medium other than the boards.

Firstly, you are saying that tutorials do not help. Secondly, a link is just a reroute to the ttorial, it helps if someone either forgot to search the Tutorial DB or missed the tutorial that answers his question. Many of our tutorials here at SEN are very informative, and can probably answer a question anyone has in full, so they do not need to fully explain the question and then provide the tutorial as an additional resource, that would be redundant. The "We have tutorials for everything" quote is overused and the reason for many stupid jokes.
