Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> How do you turn off auto-update?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Neiji on 2005-07-13 at 07:53:52
Well, I now hate XP... and I hate Microsoft even more. I don't check my e-mails, so I don't care a Frichen about viruses... But, I left my computer on to dl a big .Torrent file, and the next day, what do I see? IT SAYS WINDOWS UPDATED YOUR COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY TO CHECK FOR UPDATES!!!
Then I said to myself DAMN! WHY!?!?! Cuz all you already know, when you're downloading .Torrent files and u turn off/restart ur comp, it GETS CORRUPTED!!! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO TURN IT OFF?!?! I mean the auto-update that is...
P.S. there goes the chances for Xbox 360... and I've learned the corruuption of .Torrent files from past experiences (other times when it just censored.gif ing restarts...)
Edit: Crap, it's like 7 in the morning, i slept late, I was browsing through games, and please don't say "moving to garbage" as a post, or that'll get me too excited for nothing...

You can get viruses other places than e-mail.... Also what does xbox360 have to do with your computer?

You have more chances to get a virus via a torrent file than via e-mail.

For a reason Microsoft called it Atuo-Update, it's to make sure that all computers have their OS up to date, especially with Security updtaes. I just got my Auto-Update about 10 minutes ago and half of the files where Security related. You really can't blame them.
There is a feature that you could set it to download the update on a specific time on a specific day of the week, but I forgot where it could be configured.

This computer has never restarted by itself without asking me.

You can make it auto restart? blink.gif Even with auto DL on it always prompts me if I want to restart now or later.

Same here. I don't think it can do that. Myabe you pressed enter very fast so you selected restart now.

Some computers have this weird countdown after the updates are done asking if you want to restart now or later. And if you don't press anything, it will restart after like 5 minutes. If you do press now, it will restart. If you press later, it will ask again in 5 minutes.

Yeah, I hate it when it keeps bugging you like in the middle of a good game.

I wish there were a "shut up and leave me alone" option on there.

I do not know what torent system you are using but if you restart your computer ir stop it and it gets currupted, that program must really suck. With most torrent programs when you restart your computer or close thetorrent program then when you startit back up it should continue where it was. i would look at diffrent torrent program
