Staredit Network -> Ideas -> A map that I want to make
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DaMiNaToR on 2005-07-13 at 17:57:12
Okay, I was thinking about existing popular maps, and decided to mix a few of them together in one. So here's the basic idea that I came up with:

There are two outposts, with a big chunk of terrain in the middle. The outposts are allied, with one computer player building in both of them (player 7), who is allied to the humans (players 1-6) who also have stuff in the outposts. The human players would be divided between them (probably p1 and 2 in one, p3-6 in the other).

The map would start out like an RPG of some sort, with the computer player building up its forces and going on attacks against the enemies in the center of the map (player 8). The 4-player outpost, would be the "hero" town, where each of the four players is a powerful leader, or someone of high importance, and they would be going on quests and upgrading. The 2-player base would be a smaller town, although pretty heavily defended terrain-wise(multiple wall layers, with locking gates) and the starting objective for them is that they were recently attacked by something (haven't decided what the enemies will be) and have to re-build their town. So players 1 and 2 are building defenses and traps and repairing etc. with the help of player 7(CPU).

While all this is happening, suddenly the 2-player base gets attacked hard by enemies, and now they're under siege. So for them, it turns into a resident evil/starship troopers type map.

The 4-player base is now in charge of opening a passage through the hordes of enemies in the middle and getting inside the other outpost to protect them. The thing is, that they only have so long before their allies can't defend themselves any longer (run out of resources, ammo, or just make a big mistake). And it's not over when the heroes get there, either.

So the heroes succesfully make it inside their allies' base, and are now fairly easily cutting down the attackers at the gates, when the other (originally 4-player) base gets attacked. So by now, if the players have half a brain between them, the defenses will be pretty well rebuilt, and the heroes will have to go rescue a ton of civilians fleeing from the other base, and return before the defenses are overrun again.

I haven't decided alot of the specifics yet, but in any case, i need someone experienced in terraining (and prefferably AI) to assist me in this endevor (I know I spelled that wrong tongue.gif). Any comments or suggestions will also be very much appreciated.

ADDITION:
Oh, and this will also have the option of temporarily controlling the buildings of your computer ally for building purposes (bunkers for defense, obviously).

ADDITION:
Come on! Just say something, somebody! Everyone ignores all my ideas! cry.gif

Allow me to be the first to reply...Ok first off, this map doesn't sound too bad. Heck if done right you might be able to pull it off. But although your trying to make a hybrid, it sounds more like SST than anything else, which in my opinion is pretty dull by now. Either way, good luck and hope it turns out great. As for suggestions...wait a lil longer i'll come up with something.

Ok in simple form this is what he's attempting to do:
He is taking the SST plot of getting bombarded by creatures and using it on an outlying base where you must make your way threw to defend. Once you get there, you will be bombarded again, but then they gotta rescue a bunch of chicken censored.gifs from fleeing the town whiles its being attacked again...The RPG elements in it are unseen by me though. After all many people are saying there is no RPG in starcraft even if it declares itself an RPG.

You know, I was thinking about making an RPG total conversion of Starcraft. That would both be possible, and be pretty interesting.

But, my main interest here is to get someone that will be willing to actually work on this with me, since, like everyone else, I have certain areas of expertise, and certain areas where I begin to see problems and tear my hair out. blink.gif So, if you're either experienced with AI, and/or with terraining, that would be great. biggrin.gif

i would love to help you unfortunatly i dont know alot about AI and isometric terrain isnt exactly my forte but im good with triggers and i like the concept. as for a suggestion definatly dont use zerg as the baddies, that would make it look exactly like SST.

pm me for more tongue.gif

Well, for enemies, I was thinking of a combination of Zerg and Protoss, possibly (but not likely) even some Terran...
