I'm coming here because this is the best place to get some good opinions.... I've got a new map going and I think its a great idea.
Its another defence map, but hang with me for a sec.
Basically: You choose which attack comes at you, starting with the 1st level on up to about 15 Levels. Their difficulty grows the higher the level, as well as the money you get for killing them. Every 3-5 minutes a boss would be sent through, and if you havent been fighting tuff enough characters, than your dead.
I have a couple questions: Should I let each person build all their own characters, or should I have an area for character selection?
Should I make the map connected, or seperated. This ones the tuff one, because you choose what comes at you. So People would be able to mess the game up for other people pretty easily.

I think defense maps in my opinion that have seperated areas are more fun, but thats just my opinion. Have character selection.. but thats just me. I like defense maps too.

Actually any of the techniques you mentioned is equally used and acceptable. This is more about what you think is better, which may be better suited in a poll. Seperated areas for defending is good for individual defense games, while connected is good for team defense games.
Character selection is whatever is better for you. Building characters tends to be more foolproof, but with selecting characters, you have to be careful of people going between beacons and so on.
Ya, but building units take up so much room on the map (depending on how many units you can make). Seperated areas I think are better too.
i like da way you had it, when you choose your hero's.
Seperated I think would be better just becuase it eliminates the risk of noobs ruining the game for others. Make it where you select characters. Using the building system is just taking the easy way out

You could also do a sort of seperate-together thing, where each player has a long stretch to themselves, but eventually everything meets up, within this, if players wanted to defend "on their own" some kind of vote could be made to kill all "leaked" units, so it would be a lone defense again.
