The Tournament
Well, we had the SEN Spring 2005 Tournament, and now its time for the Summer one. This time, its going to be a little bit different. Normally melee tournaments offer little potential for those who simply map. This time, you can enter as either a mapper or player.

Mappers
Your job is to make the maps that people play on. You have until July 31st to create and submit a map. Here are the guidelines:
1. No larger than 128x128.
2. Any number of players allowed.
3. No money/BGH style maps.
4. Please make Observer maps, if you can.
5. Must not be made or released before this post.
6. Must be original. Don't be stupid. tongue.gif

Maps may be PMed as an attachment, posted, or emailed to minimoose at staredit dot net

Any and all maps may be used for tournament play at the discretion of Mini Moose 2707 (omg, me!). But, the maps will be judged and prizes will be awarded as followed.
1st place - 750 minerals
2nd place - 600 minerals
3rd place - 450 minerals
4th place - 300 minerals
5th place - 150 minerals
use in tournament - 50 minerals
I'm probably going to need quite a few maps to use for this, so you will be awarded 25 minerals simply for entering a map that gets used.

Mappers may submit up to three maps, but mappers are limited to 500 minerals in prize awards.

.: So it begins
Then, with the map selection, the tournament is near. Maps will be released on the deadline date after the maps have been judged. The tournament will begin on that day.

Signing up
In order to be eligible for playing in the tournament you must...
1. not be making maps for the tournament. You can either play or map, not both.
2. not be Mini Moose 2707
3. have a registration date of before July 18, 2005.
4. be dedicated to finishing your games. If you are not willing to expend effort organizing times with your opponent, or simply lead a busy life, please do not enter.

To enter, use this link. An entry fee of 30 minerals is required. Send it to Mini Moose 2707 with something in the message field about signing up for the tournament. If you cannot pay the entry fee, you cannot enter the tournament. If you do not plan to play your matches, you are wasting your Minerals. Unless good cause is shown, there shall be no refunds.

DEADLINE - All entrants must submit by August 1st, 2005.

.: Game Reporting
All particapants in the tournament must save and submit REPLAYS of their games. They can be posted, attached to a PM, or emailed to me at minimoose2707 at staredit dot net
If you do not report your game and your opponent does not concede defeat, you must play the game again.

Misc
Observers are permitted in a match, but must leave if requested by any of the players. Should an observer be in the tournament and interfere with the match, they will be immediately removed from the tournament and the match discounted. The player creating each game has the right to ban anyone who enters besides his opponent before the game starts. Players have the right to disable vision with observers as they see fit. A decisive victory need not be won. Should a player be using bad manner tactics such as floating around as Terran, sticking Pylons in the corner, they will be removed from the tournament. Viable strategies and tactics such as "Offensive Gas" (building on opponents geyser in early game), DT rushing, and "Manner Pylon" (building a pylon to block opponent's mining) are all fair game not considered bad manner.

No hacks, spoofers, or other third party programs are allowed. Bugs and Glitches affecting gameplay found inside the Brood War game are not to be used. Should a replay contain evidence pointing to players hacking or abusing bugs and found guilty, they will be immediately removed from the tournament without question. Minor glitches such as hold-position Lurkers/Workers and allied Mines are allowed. Something such as floating units are not. If in doubt, ask.

.: Times and Maps
The tournament will begin on August 1st. Each player will have one week to complete a round of games with their opponents. It is the responsibility of the player to organize their matches. Should the set of games not be complete in the time allocated, the case will be examined and one or both entrants will be disqualified. The next round will begin immediately after the conclusion of one round, but not after the exact one week date arrives. Games played before a round begins will not be discounted (unless the other player is unable attend his match during the round). Each round is a best of three matches.

Maps will be announced at the start of the tournament. Two mapper-created maps will be used for each round. If a tiebreaker is required, a common and popular map will be used for the third match (ie, Lost Temple, Gamea Gowon).

.: Prizes
You wouldn't enter a tournament without knowing, right?
Semi-Finalists (2) - 250 Minerals
Losing Finalist (1) - 500 Minerals
Champion - 1500 Minerals

Total Prize award is 2500 Minerals. Additional prize donations will be accepted if you have Minerals to throw away. tongue.gif

So, time to train up, and get going. uberwoot.gif

QUOTE
allied Mines are allowed

Any chance you'll change your mind about that? That's going to annoy a lot of people (not only that, but it's not an intended part of the game).

Is this entirely melee only? Or can i make a map with triggers still played as melee..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chef on 2005-07-19 at 00:46:35
Only triggers allowed will be observer triggers... clearly.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-07-19 at 00:46:39
The only triggers should be Observer triggers... unless you want to give the Observers minigames on the side or something. tongue.gif

"allied Mines are allowed"

Okay then.. I'll just force all Terrans I play against to play me on One on One gametype :)

So its meele maps only right

Allied Mines (allying and waiting for opponent to move over mines then unallying)

It's not allowed in virtually all tournements for a reason (all professional tournements I know of ban it). You can get similar effect by blinding your mines, which is legal in all tourneys.

Does it cost 40 mines to enter? or all entries win atleast 40 minerals. Cause i might enter but i know i won't win. It's gonna have minigames on the side ^_^

hold pos lurks and ally mine are considered BM are you sure they should be aloud minimoose
Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2005-07-19 at 01:50:11
By minigames, I think that he means the versions of melee maps where the observers get a Missle turret and there's a bunch of hallucinated birds and you shoot them for fun, but after 3 minutes or so, the turrets die.

i like the micro on islands from an lt map i have its pretty sweet.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2005-07-19 at 01:54:35
Yeah, I have a couple of LT obs maps like that I got from playing on the Asia Server and obs'ing some games, that's what Minimoose is talking about with the "minigames" thing I think.

Allied mines isn't going to be a very good strategy, it almost seems like it could majorly backfire, also, many people keep observers with their units when PvT.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grouty on 2005-07-19 at 01:57:12
i personally <3 hold pos lurks because its a basic gg for zerg (me=zerg)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2005-07-19 at 01:59:48
You probably play against a bunch of newbs than, lol. Hold pos lurks and "allied mines" would never work against me.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grouty on 2005-07-19 at 02:01:33
id tell you to get on bw and prove it right now BUT you would be expecting it and ive done it to people way above newbs and it dominates~ following with zlings its gg

ohhh ya i dont do it to protoss~

also mini should add names of people signed up

You would beat me right now regardless, I have a broken hand, it's nearly impossible playing SC one handed, I bet I'll still win a round in this tourney though.

Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2005-07-19 at 02:21:21
Sure thing, I can beat 99% of the people here at SEN in melee (yeah, I know, it's a mapmaking place).
