Ok, here's my situation.
I'm running DSL, very speedy. I can host games no problem. I can join games that are only 1v1. But if I want any 2v2 action, or anything beyond I have to make game, I can't join, because I lag if there's more then one other person in the game (if I'm not hosting). I opened up the SC ports but still, doesn't work
. Does anyone else have this problem, or do you know how I can fix it?
Thanks,
cool_breeze
You're not on NTL broadband, are you?
I was going to suggest that it could be a router problem, but it looks like you've already covered that.
I have the same problem, I join any game and if I have to download the map it takes a while and I usually get banned before its done, and sometimes it take sa few seconds to join the game lobby. So yea, DSL is a pain the ass. My friends have to host their games if I want to play anything, it trust me it REALLY sucks when you wanna test out your maps.
Sure its not a fire-wall problem?
I have DSL and it runs just fine, enable all information from B.net to be accepted through your firewall, the firewall might be blockign something from B.net
Beer, how would I do that?
You know, Starcraft came out the same time I had a 56k dial up connection. I got SC back then when broadband and dsl were too expensive, and I played starcraft just fine. In fact, Starcraft was UNDER regular system requirements back then. The celerons were the popular CPU type, and P3's were just coming out. Starcraft only needs a P1 90 (as a minimum), but of course everyone knows it doesn't cut it with the huge maps we have now.
Back then, absolutely no one said "omg you lag", or whatever else. Majority of us had 56k connections, but we downloaded 250kb maps and whatever perfectly fine.
"Lag" today with starcraft is not a problem with your connection nor your computer. Its more, whats on your computer. You must have spyware or downloads running (even if you're on a network in your home, another computer might be the problem).
I do not have any spyware or anything. As I said, I do not lag if I host, only when I want to join a game with more than one other person. I think it's a port/firewall issue, but I know for sure that it has nothing to do with spyware/adware/virus.
is it a old computer?
or do you have anything that effects your internet?
My computer isn't new, but it's a Powermac G4, it can handle BW easily. Also, I don't know of anything that could be affecting my internet. I think there is some setting that I need to enable or disable, I'm just not sure what.
Because before I had DSL, just when I had AOL dialup even, I could play BW all day long and not a drop of lag. So it's definitely not the computer, it's my DSL, and most likely a setting or something like that. I just have no clue what
.
Aha, now you say its a powermac! I haved one of those things... Sadly, i cant tell you anything, since i couldnt get Battle.net to even work on that thing. (I didnt know i needed AOL open...) Wait, you say its your internet anyway?
I dont know... Maybe your connection is messed up... Does it lag on the web?
Nope, fast and snappy as possible on the web.
You have a Mac then, I can't help you with that but you should see if you can do what I said.

Macs are pretty slow on the internet but my sister plays SC on it all the time and it doesn't lag. Yoshi is right it must be spyware or something on his computer lagging it up.
ADDITION: Actually Macs don't get a lot of spyware so I don't know what's wrong with it.
