This is a discussion on what you memebers of SEN think about Electronic Music.

Please do not flame or spam. This is for lite discussion, not dissing on what people think.

I think that Electronic Music is teh pwners. I believe it is the music of the future. Check out this site: Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music

That will explain every single Genre of Electronic Music (Well, most every genre) And if you can get past his obsessive dissing and humor, it is quite the history lesson.

My favorite genres are: Anything that has an Acid in front of it (Acid/Hard Acid Trance, Acid/Hard Acid Techno, Acid Breaks, Acid House) Goa Trance, Classic Trance, Progressive Trance, Sometimes Anthem and Epic Trance, Psychedelic Trance, all forms of Techno, All forms of Hardcore, Most of the Jungle category, and most of the Breakbeats category (Acid Breaks, Big Beat, Chemical Breaks, and Funky Breaks are my fav) But Hard Acid Techno is teh PWNERS! Acid Air Raid (The full song is great!) is the best Hard Acid Techno song I have ever heard.... *Cries*

So check out that site and post what you like so we can discuss why you like them smile.gif

And if any of you make Electronic Music, post what stlyes you make, too. If you want.

I make: Psychedelic Trance, Goa Trance, Progressive Trance (My own style of Progressive, not like the Progressive on there) and sometimes Acid styles

ADDITION:
Oh! I almost forgot!

If you check out the Liquid Raving, that is what I can do.

If that was dissing Electronic Music, just think. Rap is a form of Electronic Music so you just dissed on Rap (Yay if you did! smile.gif)

Every style of music is now including elements of Electronic Music. May it be a drum machine, a flange, a chorus, a phaser, a synth, it doesn't matter. All music that is being produced now days, is heading in the direction of Electronic Music (I need to quit posting when I just wake up....)

I like both trance and techno, but rap... sounds... stupid... for some reason. At least when they "sing" on english, on swedish it actually sounds pretty cool smile.gif

Its music that emphasizes faster beats and more complicated meters. I'm a fan of it, especially Industrial and Goa Psy. It reflects this era rather well, don't you think? This is the middle of a technology revolution, afterall.

Out of all that I like Industrial Rock... and... doom midis
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-07-25 at 09:45:15
Ha ha! Doom MIDIs are awesome!

I agree with Kame. And Goa is awesome! It's more of the "Underground" type of Electronic Music.

"Epic" Trance is the stuff that comes out now days and is purely Mainstream. No wonder Electronic Music gets mocked at......

I actually like electronic music if it includes categories like dance or remixes (with the added techno drum beats).

Dance is a form of Electronic Music.

Remixes are, too.

Give a few examples and I will try to tell you what genre they are wink.gif

Ugh...I hate Euro Dance. Its so mainstream and makes me want to cry ><!! Jpop is pretty close up there too, but at least the lyrics don't repeat, so I'm alright with it. Most of Euro seems to have the same type of lyrics too, in my opinion. "I love you" "are you leaving me" "go away" ... yeah. I guess that's pretty much mainstream music come to think of it. ><

I don't like rap either, but that's unrelated. I prefer music that takes a certain degree of talent to make, and that can be played live. But I also pay for my music so what do I know?

Don't be hating rap because it's too easy to make. People used to hit on rock n roll for the same exact reason back in the 60's. Hate it for another reason.

Can we stop saying electronic music, and just start saying digital? Cause by simple definition, the ELECTRIC guitar would go down as electronic. Digital music is a form of note and riff sampling. There are a lot of grey areas to it, but 1 rule is simple, if it's not acoustic, it's digital. Unless you add filters and stuff like that, then it gets a little bit more grey. And trust me, music is one of the most grey topics ever.

Some composer said it best;
"There are very few actual rules to music."
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Trigonometry on 2005-07-26 at 04:15:11
Electronic and Digital are two different things... Digital is a simulated waveform taking in existance as a bit stream... That becomes what is electriconic, which just is charges that hit a magnet that create pulses which makes up physical waveforms... Electric is just a mere path of sound, which one should consider as common sense. Electric guitar is no more different than an acoustic guitar with a microphone up to it. The only true way it'd be an electric guitar is if it runs wires in place of the strings and a circuite board in place of frets and you use a safety pin to play it.

The two things that annoy me about people with techno/digital and rap... Both sides always say "It's got beat, it's got rhythm." Like beat is much of an acomplishment... That's a first day lesson for drums, come on... I could jack off a drum beat onto my keyboard... Music speaks... Rhythm is just what helps you go along with it... Lead is the commanding voice... Now if you were a in conversation would you find it interesting if that person was saying the same damn thing over and over? If you ask me lead takes priority...

I can't say the complexity of rap and techno rhythm have me impressed... Woo!!! In 100hz C5 C5 C5 C5 C5 C5 C5 D5 C5 C5 C5 pretty much sums up a techno and rap bass line. You think digital is complex? NOT! It's just an audio illusion, they just offset the bass line by a quarter note to the right. I hate to burst your bubble but beat and rhythm are not something worth talking about. The whole point to bass, rhythm, and beat is it's support, otherwise you'd just have a lead.

"There are very few actual rules to music."
However he never said good music...

"Dance is a form of Electronic Music."

Yet... Another retarded name for an electronic genre... Dance... Like you don't dance to swing or something? Well toss out those swing dancing lessons... Because of some reject from LA, thinks he's some evolved being, he has this whole emotionaless additude "your mind is slave to the future of techno" sort of dig. And people thinks it's cool becaue he drives a Euro sports car "oh that's cool!" I'll follow him like a sheep. That this whole idiotic name derives from.

Techno has an unreaonable ammount of sub-catigories, more than any other genre... The sad thing there is only minor differences between them... Only real changes is the instrument packs, and tempo... No structural differences at all... Difference between trance and acid is relivent to the difference between Metalica and Limp Biscuit WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY different sounds... But they they're both called "metal" and not two different catigories due to the fact they both have the same structure... Which reminds me I need get a hold of Rob Zombie, I've been having an audio craving for that.

Plain and simple scene and music need to be taken in seperate doses... Or you'll just get another Britney Spears... "oooh boobies! GUD MUS1XAN!"
"Ooooh I love marijuana! DAM HE GUD!"

Or actually people shouldn't be so easily entertained... "Oooh loud thumping sound COOL! HE LYK BEHOVEN"

Chances are I wouldn't like that music either. I don't like ALL rock. Infact a lot of it sucks. But there are certain bands I like. Vocals are incredibly important people, not a lot of people can actually sing. Even in popular bands they'll have some euniche doing the vocals and I'll just turn it off. I'm asking for something I couldn't do when I pay someone else to do it. Otherwise people will do it for free.

I don't like rap in general. However there are a few exceptions but they aren't like my omfg favorites.

On digital cable (or satelite) there are these TV radio channels where it plays music of it's genre, there's one section called Electronic but literally all of it sucks.

You could've nailed me in the face with the dictionary, and I would have no room to speak. So allow me to undeniably prove myself wrong for you:
Definition for electronic:

1. Of or relating to electrons.
2. Of, based on, operated by, or otherwise involving the controlled conduction of electrons or other charge carriers, especially in a vacuum, gas, or semiconducting material.
3. Of, relating to, or produced by means of electronics: electronic navigation; electronic books.
4. Of or relating to music produced or altered by electronic means, as by a tape recorder or synthesizer.
5. Of, implemented on, or controlled by a computer or computer network.

I see I was wrong with the digital thing. Thanks for pointing out the difference for me.

Digital yes, robot? Now... The music isn't being created by machine, it's played by machine.

No offence but I couldn't help but laugh at how you diss on Electronic Music. Yeah, some of it just changes a quarter beat, but if you would actually go to the link I gave and listen to the "Underground" stuff (Not the gay ass mainstream :poo:)

Ever heard of Goa Trance? I agree with Ishkur on this: "For what it's worth, the only Trance genre that has some integrity left. Goa is just to complicated, to dark, to broodling, and to ominus to have POPULAR and it's doubtfull that it ever will..."

Goa Trance is "Underground" and is one of the most complex forms of Electronic Music I have ever heard. The :poo: that comes out now days is, "Let's make C5 and hold it for four beats, then lets kick it up to F#5 for another four beats, now down to E5 for four beats, then up to A5 for four beats"

Yeah, that sucks major nuts. "Epic Trance" (The horrible Mainstream :poo: that comes out now) blows dogs for quarters.

If you have ever heard any of the Acid Genres, Goa, Psy or anything else underground, you would understand how :poo:ty the crap is now days.

And the difference between Trance and Acid, I agree, not a lot. But the difference between House, Hardcore, Techno, Jungle, Breakbeat and Trance is a lot (That's like putting CCR up to Metalica and saying there isn't a difference)

House is usually slower (130-140 BPMs) and has a "Groove" feel to it.

Hardcore is fast beat (200-1000+ BPM. Depends on what Sub-Genre of Hardcore you listen to) Has heavy bass hits, and usually is "Demonic"

Techno usually has hard hitting bass (It's usually 130-150 BPM. But mostly 135 or 140) and is really repetative, and is looped.

REAL Trance is hypnotic, and very repetative (Slow Trance is 130, but most Trance is 140 BPM) Most of the "Old School Trance" has a very unique synthesizer in it. Known as the TB-303 (The synth that produces that Acid sound)

The Trance that comes out now, can hardly put you in a Trance (That is why they called it that. If you read www.ishkur.com/music and get past his obsessive ranting and dissing, you will get taught many a thing about Electronic Music) It is "Emo" music (As Parthx calls emotional music) and that is why the mainstream has eaten it up. "Because it's not like it used to be where songs could last three hours and parties last for days. Now it's a bunch of pathetic emotional anthems put together and is hardly entrancing" - Put into my own words from Ishkur, but he says it like that, just differently

So before you start dissing on Electronic Music it'self, why don't you diss on it's mainstream patheticness? And not the Underground 1337ness?

Robot music....? Oh. So you're saying that most all 70's music is Robot music because they had synths?

Hmm..... Oooooookkkkaaaaaaayyyyyyy......

And lets call all music now days robot music. Because most the :poo: that comes out now days has some sort of filter attached to it.

Wether its a LP, HP, or BP or even a Flange, you better call it "Robot" music.

Oh, and P.S. Techno is a genre of Electronic Music you monkey!
