Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Imporant new mapping discoveries
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-07-26 at 14:53:00
Deathknight, longtime SEN member and known for finding new glitches in starcraft is making a discoveries which might end up changing the way we make starcraft UMS maps forever.
Any PC user who is interested in UMS mapping should read this topic.
Unfortunately like most things that modify the memory, it works differently for mac users.

Waste of time writing all that, quite useless triggers. I'm not even gonna bother reading all that crap.

Good, we certainly don't want someone too lazy to realize innovation to try to use it.

If blizzard doesn't like it, they'll remove it much like they did with our player 131 in patch 1.12 I think it was. I can't imagine it being so hard to do so.

The site isn't here to hinder map making innovations, we support this, because maps like these can easily be used in LAN parties and so on.

Thus far, Deathknight has never ever posted a concept that didn't work.

cool discoveries i guess, but I doubt I would use any of those in my maps.

Implementing flashy or cool things into my maps is just not my style.

ADDITION:
Well i might take that back...

We played a map of this type the other day, it worked pretty good. Marines with shield that attacked with 1700 interceptors.

Seems like modding will be integrated into mapmaking except for the graphical parts.

So modding without a mod is useless? Being able to change location size/position during the game is useless? Reading, adding/subtracting a specific unit's hp value is useless? Text recognition is useless?..

Can you tell me anything else that's useless with this? Nobody thought the Automodder would be useless. This is practically a replacement concept

This is like the automodder except the program itself is inside the map, you don't have to download any side program or whatever.

There are many ways to modify Starcraft's memory without a mod, Clokr_ showed me the results of his work a fe months ago and it was quite impresive. He used a third party program to achieve it though.

Damaged him a little so that you can see it works properly.

The really interesting stuff is towards the end. So don't read the first few pages and be like "I'm not even gonna bother reading all that crap."

This is, without a doubt, the biggest discovery since extended map editing. I just want 1 more concept map where ghosts can fire "Lockdown"-style missiles as their primary weapon.

I'm at camp, so I havn't gotten to acutally play the map. I trust DK though.

The computers are locked, so it's kinda hard to DL stuff to them.

EDIT: Alinating mac users kinda sucks. sad.gif
